Eleanor A. Denning, 90 of St. Meinrad passed away Friday September 12th at her home. Eleanor was born February 8,1924 in Ireland, In. to Theodore & Cecelia (Sermersheim) Renner. She married Clarence Denning on May 17,1947 in St. Mary’s Church in Ireland, In.

Eleanor was a member of St. Meinrad Parish and its Ladies Sodality. She was a homemaker. Besides her husband Clarence, she was preceded in death by 1 son, Frank Denning, 1 grandchild, Brian Denning, 1 brother, Clemie Renner, 2 sisters, Agnes Eckert & Magdaline Sendelweck.

Surviving are 1 son, Randall Denning and his wife Janice of St. Meinrad. 1 daughter-in-law, Mary Denning of St.Meinrad. 5 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services 10:00 AM CDT Wednesday in St. Meinrad Catholic Church, burial to follow in the church cemetery. Judith A. Birchler, 56, of Mariah Hill, passed away, September 10, 2014 at Woodlands Nursing Center in Newburgh. Judith was born November 2, 1957 in Huntingburg to Severln F. and Estella Agnes (Gogel) Birchler. Judith enjoyed making blankets and bibs for babies and was a member of Spencer County Right to Life. Judith was a Special Olympics participant.

Judith is survived by five sisters; Vita M. Kippenbrock of Ferdinand, Carole Leibering of Lamar, Della Fehribach of Houston, TX., Patricia Birchler and Charlene Mary and husband Thomas Wayne Boutwell both of Evansville; four brothers, Ronald Joseph Birchler and wife Kristina of Moorsesville, IN., Larry Eugene Birchler and wife Mary of Gadsden, AL., Richard Lee Birchler and wife Barbara of Grandview and William Albert Birchler and wife Wini of Evansville; thirty-six nieces and nephews; ninety-three great nieces and nephews; sixteen great-great nieces and nephews also survive. Judith was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Louise Birchler and Donna Louise Birchler.

Funeral services will be at 10:00am CDT Monday September 15th at Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill. Visitation will be Sunday, September 14th from 2-8:00pm CDT at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and Monday from 9:00am CDT until service time at Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill. Joseph Mehling, 63, of Ferdinand, passed away, Friday, September 5, 2014 at his home. Joe was born December 15, 1950 to Hugo and Verena (Metzger) Mehling in Ferdinand. He married Judy Ebert on November 18, 1972 in St. Ferdinand Church. Joe was owner and operator of JJ’s Express Lube in Ferdinand, Ferdinand Farm Service and Joe Mehling Trucking. Joe was a 1968 graduate of Forest Park High School. He enjoyed playing cards, raising beef cattle and grilling outdoors. Joe was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and also Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce.

Joe is survived by his wife, Judy Mehling of Ferdinand; one daughter Jill Zazzetti and husband Tony of Ferdinand; three sons, Doug and wife Cheryl of St. Anthony, Greg and wife Joni of Dubois, Jeff Mehling and wife Tracy of Bretzville; nine sisters, Anna Rose Altman and husband Tom, Eileen Hauser and husband Fred, Bernita Fleck and husband John, Evelyn Hasenour and husband Tom and Katie Mehling all of Ferdinand, Agnes Leadingham and companion John of Beckley, WV., Marietta Hagedorn and husband Don of Waverly KY., Lucille Weissenberger of Long Beach CA. and Dolores Hasenour and husband Gary of Celestine; one brother Ray Mehling and wife Sheryl of Bretzville; nine grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be from 2-8:00pm on Monday and 7-9:30am on Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand. Lucille Heilers, 91, of Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Scenic Hills Care Center. Lucille was born March 25, 1923 in Ferdinand to Andrew and Caroline (Heeke) Boeglin. She married Linus Heilers on October 11, 1947 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church. Linus passed away on June 30, 1971. Lucille was a former switchboard operator at the Monastery of Immaculate Conception. She was a member of Saint Ferdinand Parish and St. Anns Sodality; Monastery of Immaculate Conception prayer line. Lucille enjoyed baking and praying the Rosary.

Lucille is survived by, three sons; Tom and wife Karen of  Louisville, KY., John of Columbia, KY., Fred and wife Dianne of Ferdinand; two daughters, Karen Sue Ferguson and husband Bruce of Greenwood, IN. and Mary Heilers of Mesquite, TX; one sister, Rose Mae Kline and husband James of Ferdinand; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Linus; three brothers, Alphonse, Ralph and Ted Boeglin; five sisters, Frieda Olinger, Elnora Hedinger, Leona Lueken, Mary Etta Merkley and Hattie Boeglin.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 4th from 2-8:00pm and Friday from 7-9:30am at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. John “Pup” Schuetter, 49, of
Huntingburg, died, Saturday, August 30th at Brookside Village in Jasper. John was born June 27, 1965 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper to Jacob “Jack” and Barbara (Ruhe) Schuetter. He married Angela (Schulz) Schuetter on April 17, 1993 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church. John was a driver for Central Concrete. He enjoyed camping, hunting and being with family and friends. He was a fan of the Indiana Hoosiers, Cincinnati Reds and the Miami Dolphins. John was a member of the St. Anthony Conservation Club and Saint Ferdinand Parish. 

John is survived by his wife, Angela; two sons, Jacob and Nathan; two daughters, Claudia and Calli all at home; his mother, Barbara Henning and husband Tracy of Ferdinand; three sisters, Chris Becher and husband Shawn of Ferdinand, Janet Roller and husband Jeff of Carmel, IN and Connie Spinner and husband Dave of Ferdinand; one brother, Bill Schuetter and wife Max of Ferdinand. John was preceded in death by his father, Jack; one brother, George; grandparents, Mary and Edward Ruhe, George and Mary Schuetter.

Allen J. Werne, 85, of Ferdinand died, Monday, August 25th at 12:20am at his home. He was born February 12, 1929 to Ray J. and Dorothy (Dotterweich) Werne in Ferdinand. Allen married Doris Harpenau on March 26, 1951 in St. Marks Church near Tell City. Allen was a self-employed farmer. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. Allen served 18 years as President of Ferdinand Farmers Insurance Company. Allen was one of the original six members of the Dubois County Airport Authority. Allen received numerous awards, 2006 Dubois County Cattleman Outstanding Cattleman Award; 1965 Outstanding Grassland Farmer and 2006 Indiana Beef Cattle Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Allen was a member of, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and its’ St. Josephs Sodality.

Allen is survived by his wife, Doris A. Werne; one son, Dan “Red” Werne of Ferdinand; four daughters, Judy Olinger and husband Gene of Mechanicsburg, PA., Mickie Paulin and husband Greg of Ferdinand, Brenda Lueken and husband Ronnie of Schnellville, Bev Atkins and husband Gordon of St. Anthony; two sisters, Elaine Bettag and husband John of Mariah Hill; Dolores Boeglin of Ferdinand; two brothers, Bill Werne of Surprise, AZ., Donald Werne and wife Rita of Ft. Lauderdale FL.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-granchildren.  Allen was preceded in death by one son, Jerry L. Werne; one sister, Phyllis Sermersheim and 2 grandchildren, Nathan & Deven Lueken.

Visitation will be, Wednesday, August 27th from 2- 8:00pm and Thursday from 7-9:30am at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Othmar J. Ebert,
96 of Ferdinand passed away Tuesday August 19th in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand. He was born July 13, 1918 in Ferdinand to Joseph & Mary (Rahman) Ebert. He married Hilda T. Schaefer on May 22, 1945 in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church.

Othmar retired from DMI Furniture and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366, Life member St. Meinrad Knights Of Columbus #5599 St. Meinrad, Farm Bureau, Ferdinand Senior Citizens, St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Josephs Sodality. Othmar was a director for Perry-Spencer RTC for 15 years. He enjoyed playing cards and farming. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Amelia Laake, 3 brothers, Edwin, Robert and infant Raymond Ebert.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Hilda T. Ebert  1 son, Sylvan Ebert and his wife Linda of Greenwood, 5 daughters, Norma Murray and husband Jim of Kokomo, In., Diane Balbach and husband David of Dale, Marlene Braunecker and husband Gene of Huntingburg, Sandy Meyer and husband Steve of Lexington, Ky., and Terri Carson and husband Jeff of Carmel, In. 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. 1 brother, Anthony Ebert of Ferdinand.

Anastasia Wollenmann,
84, of  Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, August 17, 2014, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. Anastasia was born June 12, 1930 in Troy, IN to Lawrence and Nellie (Gelarden) Braunecker. She married John Wollenmann on June 25, 1954 in St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy. He passed on April 29, 1997.

                Anastasia is survived by a son, John Wollenmann Jr. and wife Patty of Jasper; one daughter, Dianne Gogel and her partner Jerry Klee of Perry County, IN; one brother, Ambrose Braunecker of Danville, KY; two sisters, Rosie Mills and Patty Welp both of Evansville; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. Anastasia was preceded in death by her husband John, and sister’s Jeannie Becher and Mary Braunecker.

                Anastasia retired from Ferdinand Elementary where she served as a cook for 24 years. She loved going to yard sales and playing bingo at local picnics. Anastasia especially loved anything to do with Christmas. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Church and its St. Anne’s Sodality.

 David H. Hassfurther, 69, of Ferdinand passed away, Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center. David was born October 19, 1944 in Ferdinand to Lawrence and Amelia (Dilger) Hassfurther. David is survived by his son Keith Hassfurther of Ferdinand; four brothers, Linus, Tom, Pat and Sylvester”Nessy” all of Ferdinand; one sister, Martha Hulsman of Siberia and two grandchildren. David was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar, Joe, Albert and Norman and two sisters, Ruth Gish and Dorothy Oeding.
David was owner-operator of Hassfurther Masonry and a member of Dubois County Homebuilders Association. He enjoyed being out on the farm with
animals, especially his dog Opie. David also operated Dave’s Mule Train. He was an avid Forest Park Ranger fan.

Joseph G. Persohn, 83 of St. Meinrad passed away Friday August 1st at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City. He was born December 31, 1930 in Saint Anthony, In. to Hubert & Pauline (Altmeyer) Persohn. He married Mary Jane “Jeanie”Vaal on September 27, 1951 in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church, St. Meinrad. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2011.

Joseph retired as plant superintendent at Aristocraft / Masterbrand Cabinets. He was a member of St. Meinrad Parish. He loved to hunt and fish, playing softball & cards, cooking & baking. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Survivors include, 1 daughter, Debbie Kelley and husband Jim of Leopold, In.  2 sons, Roger Persohn of Haubstadt, In. & Dean Persohn and fiancé Brenda of Wadesville.

8 grandchildren, Jeremy Edwards, Jamie Edwards, Jill Tompkins, Jennifer Kellems, Jordan Kelly, Jeff Kelly, Adam Persohn & Emily Persohn.

11 great grandchildren, Wyatt , Ethan, Andre, & Alexa Edwards, Reese & Ava Tompkins, Hunter & Hope Kellems, Clohe, Calissa, & Cayleigh Kelly.

1 brother, Lawrence Persohn and wife Ramilda of Jasper 4 sisters, Cora Fischer and husband Jim of St. Meinrad, Bonnie Fleck of Jasper, Ardella Schneider and husband Pete of Ferdinand, & Leona Schaefer of Dale.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ruth Knies and Madesta Persohn and 3 brothers, Ray , Ralph, and Walter Persohn

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 5th at 1:00 PM CDT in Saint Meinrad Catholic Church in St. Meinrad, burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Herbert A. Balbach, 89, of Ferdinand died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Brookside Village in Jasper. Herbert was born October 16, 1924 in Mariah Hill to Anton and Bertha (Jochim) Balbach. He married Theresa A. Kerstiens on May 22, 1951 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2007. Herbert is survived by three sons, Robert and wife Patty of Evansville, Ken and wife Julia of Evansville and Larry of Ferdinand; three daughters, Rita Messmer and husband Edward of Jasper, Judy Louthan and husband Mark of of Newburg and Patty Copeland and husband Bob of Louisville, KY and one brother, Leo Balbach of Mariah Hill. Eleven grandchildren Emily & Scott Balbach, Greg, Brad, & Logan Messmer, Aaron & Tyler Copeland Jennifer & Megan Balbach, Jessica & Brooke Louthan. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife Theresa; a son, Dennis; a granddaughter, Kayla Copeland and one brother William Balbach.

                Herbert was a WWII Veteran where he served as a Medic with the C Squadron 1385th. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and St. Ferdinand Parish. Herbert was an avid gardener who also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Herbert was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.   

                Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 2-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, July 30th from 7-9:30 a.m. at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand. Robert L. Schaeffer, 82, of Santa Claus, passed away, Friday, July 18, 2014 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born August 15, 1931 to Paul and Nora ( Schulte ) Schaeffer in Fulda, IN. Robert married JoAnn Daming on November 22, 1956 at St. Marks Catholic Church in Tell City. Robert was a partner in Schaeffer Trucking and High Point Inc. He was also a self-employed farmer who especially enjoyed working on his back-hoe. 

Robert was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict where he earned the Purple Heart Award.  Robert is survived by his wife, JoAnn; two sons, Brian and his wife Stacy of Santa Claus, Gale and his girlfriend Crystal of Santa Claus; two sisters, Lidwina Miller of Fulda and Dorothy Foertsh of Evanston; two grandchildren, Morgan and Jason Schaeffer both of Santa Claus. Robert was preceded in death by a brother, Norbert Schaeffer and one sister, Alberta Keller.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 20th at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. CST and Monday from 7:30 until 9:30 a.m. CST at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. CST Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda with burial to follow in the Church cemetery. Theodore Othmar Seifrig,
62, of Saint Meinrad, passed away, July 8, 2014 at his home in Saint Meinrad. Theodore was born November 11, 1951 in Saint Meinrad to William and Opal (Kline) Seifrig.

Theodore was a Vietnam Veteran as a part of the Military Police. He enjoyed listening to music and also taking drives. Theodore is survived by his daughter, Dawn Berg and husband Nathan of Saint Meinrad; four sisters, Dorothy Hessig of Saint Meinrad, Alice Stillwell and husband Tom of Birdseye, Helen Stillwell and husband Harold of Birdseye, Milly Harpenau and husband Larry of Tell City; three brothers, Paul and wife Linda of Saint Meinrad, Donald and wife Kathy of Dale; Roger and wife Mary Ellen of Saint Meinrad; three grandchildren, Jazmine, Tiffany and Brody Berg all of Saint Meinrad.
Theodore was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy, Louis and Ralph Seifrig and a sister Pat Aldridge. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT Thursday, July 17th at Dale Cemetery with Father Anthony Vinson O.S.B officiating. Edwin Charles Schilling
, 66 of Ferdinand passed away Thursday July 10th in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand. He was born September 20, 1947 in Ferdinand to Albert E. & Elenora E. (Hildenbrand) Schilling.

Edwin was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and Ferdinand V.F.W. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War serving in the Engineer Corps. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Elenora Schilling, brother, Albert David Schilling, 3 sisters, Carol Jean Schilling, Susan E. Schilling, & Margaret “Margie” Merkel.

Surviving are 3 brothers, James “Tex” Schilling, Tom Schilling and wife Sue both of St. Henry, Mark Schilling and wife Mary of Fulda. Joan Beckman and husband Ray of St. Meinrad, Janet Titzer and husband Craig of Elberfeld, Mary Ann Schilling & Karen Schilling both of Ferdinand. Nieces & nephews, and great nieces & nephews also survive.

  Michael Anthony Boeglin, 30, of Ferdinand, died June 26, 2014 in Detroit, MI. Michael was born September 24, 1983 in Huntingburg to Darlene A. Boeglin. Micheal married Ashley Marie Clark on October 27, 2012 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church.  After graduating from Forest Park High School in 2002, Michael went on to work as a United States Border Patrol Agent. He later became employed as a truck driver for Mawson & Mawson.  He enjoyed farming and driving Jeeps.

Michael is survived by his wife, Ashley Marie Boeglin of Ferdinand ; his mother, Darlene Boeglin of Ferdinand; two sisters, Melanie Boeglin and his twin sister Michelle Boeglin; one brother, Mark A. Boeglin all of Ferdinand; a niece, Peyton Boeglin and a nephew Dakota Boeglin both of Ferdinand. Michael was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Ralph A. Boeglin.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2014 at St. Ferdinand Church from 2:00 until 8:00 PM and Monday July 7th from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Walter Eugene Kasprzycki, 91 of Fairfield, OH. Passed away Thursday June 19, 2014 at Westover Facility in Hamilton, OH. He was born October 16, 1922 in Bayonne, N.J. to Frank & Frances (Michalski) Kasprzycki. He married the former Edna Weyer.

Walter retired from Ford Motor Company in 1989, where he worked as a tool maker at the Sharonville, OH. Plant. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church in Fairfield, OH. He was a WWII Marine veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre. Walter was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Henrietta Welcher and Clara Posluszny.

Surviving are his wife, Edna (Weyer) Kasprzycki . 2 daughters, Nancy Kasprzycki of Adelaide, Australia, & Joan Kasprzycki-Strauss and husband Edmund Strauss of Houston, TX.

Richard Donald Graman, age 62 of Fairfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.  He was born to Alvera Graman (nee Becher) and Jerome Graman.  On November 22, 1973 in Lincoln City, IN, he married his wife Bonnie Graman (nee Hevron).  Richard, a graduate of Dale High School and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology retired from GE in April of 2013.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie; his son Nicholas (Sarah) Graman;  his mother Alvera Graman; his grandson Nathan Graman; his brothers Roger (Saundra) Graman and Jeffrey (Karen) Graman; his sisters Barbara Eudy and Rebecca (John) Melton; also survived by numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and his daughter Sarah Elizabeth Graman.

James Alan Demuth
, 59, of Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, May 18, 2014 at his home. James was born December 20, 1954 at Huntingburg to Othmar and Emmogyne (Wendholt) Demuth. James worked for OFS. He was a member of St. Meinrad Knights of Columbus #5599; Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Sons of American Legion and St. Ferdinand Parish. James enjoyed antique Oliver tractors and Beatles music. James is survived by four brothers, Bob and wife Shirley, Rick and wife Paula, and John all of Ferdinand, and Charlie and wife Martha of St. Meinrad; two sisters, Pat Nordhoff and husband Norbert of Ferdinand and Angie Gogel and husband Hilbert of Mariah Hill.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8:00 PM and Wednesday from 7-9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.


Leola “Lee” Marie Oploh, 84 of Louisville, KY, passed away at her home Thursday, May 15th. She was born in Elmhurst, IL on September 11, 1929, to Harold & Marina (Weaver) Jacobs. She married Heinz Oploh on July 27, 1957 and he preceded her in death on September 15, 1995.

She attended public and parochial schools in Chicago and graduated from DePaul University with a bachelor’s degree in Music.  She majored in education during graduate study at DePaul and the University Of Chicago.  She worked as a copy girl for the Chicago Tribune, and as an accompanist to voice teachers at DePaul University.  She taught elementary education and music in Chicago Public Schools for 38 years.  Leola enjoyed nature & traveling , especially the United States and Canada.

Survivors include 1 son, William Oploh and his wife Kimberly of Makanda, IL; 1 daughter, Irene Kostiwa and husband Wade of Milwaukee, WI; and 4 grandchildren, Heidi and Elli Oploh & Margaret and Anneliese Kostiwa.

Stephen Kermit Chase63 of Mariah Hill, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 14that 10:05pm.    He was born May 17, 1950 in Wayne City, IL, to Kermit & Vivian Chase.  Stephen was a receiving clerk at Thermwood Corporation in Dale.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking & gardening.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit & Vivian Chase.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Nichole Chase of Mariah Hill & Danielle Chase of Evansville; 1 son, Kyle Chase and his wife Meagan of Ferdinand. One grandson also survives, as well as 1 brother, Stuart Chase and his wife Barb of Taylorville, IL.

Hugo J. Wagner, 90 
of Ferdinand, IN. passed away Tuesday May 13th at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. Hugo was born August 27,  1923 in Mariah Hill, IN. to Leo F. & Minnie (Mehling) Wagner. He married Delores N. Niehaus on June 3, 1947 in St. Martin Of Tours Catholic Church, Siberia, IN. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2010.

Hugo was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, and Huntingburg V.F.W. Post 2366. Hugo was a WWII ARMY Veteran and served in Burma, Eastern Theatre. He was a member of Merrill’s Marauders. He retired from Jasper Cabinet after 48 years. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Marie and Martha Wagner, Julie Chester, Lena Laws, Loretta Ringenberg. 2 brothers, Henry & Andrew Wagner.

Surviving are 2 sons, Dennis E. Wagner of Louisville, KY. & Leroy A. Wagner and wife Judy of Ferdinand. 3 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren 2 sisters, Ida Maffenbeier of Jasper & Mrs. William “Bill” Smalley of Jeffersontown, KY.

Anna Mae Kunkler, 88 of St. Meinrad, passed away at 6:55 PM Tuesday May 6th in Northwood Retirement Community, Jasper.  Anna Mae was born November 9, 1925 in St. Meinrad, Indiana to Albert & Magdalena (Neu) Becher.  She married John H. Kunkler Sr. on June 24, 1947, in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1990.

Anna Mae was a Housekeeper at St. Meinrad Archabbey Guesthouse.  She was a member of St. Meinrad Parish and its Ladies Sodality.  She enjoyed quilting, dominos, playing cards & traveling.  She was preceded in death by 1 son, Patrick Kunkler, 1 grandson, Kurt Philipps, 2 sisters, Amanda Kunkler & Irma Fischer, and 3 brothers, Ambrose, Harold, & Roman Becher.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Phyllis Kunkler of Jasper & Vivian Philipps and husband Randy of Dale; 2 sons, John H. “Koonie” Kunkler Jr. and wife Debbie of Mariah Hill, and Mike Kunkler and wife Lana of St. Meinrad.  7 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren 1 sister, Mildred Bolte of Ferdinand also survive.

Catherine Lucy White Brown, 94, of Ferdinand, formerly of St. Meinrad, passed away April 20, 2014 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Catherine was born December 2, 1919 in Plymouth IN to Omer and Marie (Molter) White. She married Frank Fleming on September 12, 1942. Frank preceded her in death on October 26, 1959. In January of 1961, Catherine met Bob Brown, a widower with a family of four. Bob swept her off her feet and they were engaged by May 24th.  Catherine and Bob were married one month later on June 24th, 1961.

In 1937 Catherine graduated from Central High School and one year later entered St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in order to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. Catherine was capped in 1938 and reached her goal by graduating in 1941. As a nurse, Catherine has held many positions: Staff Nurse at Medical/Surgery Units at four different hospitals; Private Duty Nursing; Physician’s office; Instructor of First Aid and Home Nursing Classes and an Industrial Nurse at the RCA plant in Bloomington, IN.

Catherine has served in many volunteer activities all her life, such as: National Council of Catholic Women’s Retreat Programs, Child Abuse and Neglect Council, Indiana Catholic Conference, Spencer County Council on Aging, Driver for handicapped and the elderly, Red Cross Blood Drive Volunteer and a longtime member of Catholic Union of the Sick Of America for 26 years.

Catherine had many hobbies such as, Reading, Praying, Classical Music, Traveling and Studying health related subjects. Catherine attended 14 St. Joseph/Holy Cross Alumnae weekend Reunions and enjoyed every second of the get-togethers. Catherine was most thankful for her nurse’s training, and for making her goal in life possible. She lived by the following quotes, “Once a nurse, always a nurse,”  “Friendships are joys that never end,” “Life has been given to us and by completing what God gives us to do we find contentment and happiness.”

Catherine is survived by three sons, John Joseph VI Brown and wife Debbie of Friendswood, TX, Br. Benjamin Brown OSB of St. Meinrad Archabbey and James Patrick Brown and wife Maggie of Seattle, WA; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson also survive. Catherine was preceded in death by a daughter, MJ Heptig; two brothers, Paul White and John White; two sisters, Virginia Tschechtelin and  Dorothy Butler; and one grandson Nathan Trueblood.

Rodney Lee (Bud) Bromm, 49, of Santa Claus, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. Rodney was born January 22, 1965, in Huntingburg to Dennis and Mary (Kempf) Bromm. He married Adrienne Beckham on June 29, 2002, at the Huntingburg Conservation Club. Rodney worked for Prairie Farms. He enjoyed hunting, four-wheeler riding and card games with family. Rodney was also known to be a very hard worker.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Adrienne Bromm; his mother, Mary Culver of Huntingburg; three daughters, Jessica Dauby and husband Justin of Ferdinand, Ashton Kratzar and husband Charles of Ireland, and Nicole Bromm of Ferdinand; two stepdaughters, Taza Garris of Huntingburg and Natallie Garris of Huntingburg; three brothers, Scott Bromm of New Boston, Rick Bromm of Huntingburg and Joe Bromm of Clarksville; two sisters, Kim Deno and Stacy Huff both of Jasper; six grandchildren, Brayden Kratzer, Maddison Kratzer, Trenton Dauby, Mareah Kiefer, Christopher Garris and Baby L. Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Dennis; a nephew, Eugene Letterman and grandparents.

Greg Fischer, 42, of Bedford, passed away, Friday, April 25, 2014 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford. Greg was born December 31, 1971 in Huntingburg to Irvin and Mary (Tieman) Fischer. Greg enjoyed playing ball and watching sports.

Greg is survived by his mother, Mary Fischer of Ferdinand; seven brothers, Leroy Fischer of Mishawaka, Mike Fischer and wife Donna, Paul, David, Dennis, Steve and Marvin Fischer all Ferdinand; five sisters, Ruth Fischer, Deanne Fischer, Brenda Fischer,  Marilyn Weyer all of Ferdinand, and Marlene Johnson of Omaha, NB; three nieces and four nephews also survive. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Irvin; two brothers, Mark and Ralph; one sister, Jane Marie in infancy.

Elizabeth Cecelia Zoglman, 87 of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, April 22, at Millers Merry Manor in Rockport. She was born December 12, 1926 at Huffman Mills in Spencer County, IN, to John J. & Rosa Mary (James) Zoglman. She was a housekeeper at Regina, St. Mary’s.  She was preceded in death by 1 brother, John F. Zoglman.

Lucille Brahm, 94, of Ferdinand, passed away, Thursday April 17th at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.  Lucille was born July 14, 1919 to Clements and Magdalene (Jent) Schwindel in St. Meinrad. She married Leroy Brahm on December 28, 1943. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2009.

Lucille is survived by a son, Loren and wife Marilyn of Ferdinand; a daughter, Linda Williams of Lexington, KY;  six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Hilda M. Rahman, 90, of Ferdinand, passed away,  Sunday,  April 6th at her home.  Hilda was born February 25, 1924, in Ferdinand to Theodore and Anna (Kerstiens) Metzger. She married Linus F. Rahman on August 26, 1947, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.  Linus preceded her in death on November 4, 2013.

Hilda is survived by four sons, Alan and wife Georgia, Eddie and wife Gloria, Steve and wife Angie all of Ferdinand, Frank and wife Mary of Santa Claus; Seven daughters, Marcella “Sally” Harpenau and husband Paul of Branchville, Margie Hoffman and husband Dave,  Mary Jo Giesler and husband Bill, and Doris Klem and husband Bernard “Butch” all of Ferdinand, Carol Lueken and husband Kenny of Hatfield, MO,  Martha Demuth and husband Charlie of St. Meinrad and Connie Mundy and husband Steve of Jasper.   27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren also survive.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband Linus and two sisters, Verena Mehling and Mary Rahman.

Hilda was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and its St. Ann’s Sodality, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Ladies Auxiliary & Ferdinand Daughters Of Isabella.  Hilda volunteered at Saint Meinrad Archabbey and quilted for St. Ferdinand Parish. Hilda enjoyed quilting, baking and her family. Her eyes always lit up when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited.

Renola M. (Nord) Cecil, 86, of Mariah Hill, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born March 2, 1928, in St. Meinrad to Frank and Regina (Neu) Brockman.  Renola married Francis “Bencie” Nord on October 8, 1949 in St. Meinrad.  He preceded her in death on December 22, 1972. She married her second husband, Bill Cecil on October 25, 1974, in Metropolis, IL.  He preceded her in death on December 18, 2008.

                Renola is survived by three sons, Tom Nord and wife Cindy of Newburgh, Tim Nord and wife Tami of Mariah Hill and Terry Nord also of Mariah Hill; one stepson and 3 step-daughters; one sister, Edna “Patty” Eger of Tell City; one brother, James Brockman and wife Mary Lee of Evansville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.  Renola was preceded in death by; husbands, Francis Nord and Bill Cecil; one brother, Merwyn Brockman and a sister, Mary Jane.

                Renola was a former co-owner of The Chateau Restaurant in Mariah Hill. She enjoyed puzzles, playing dominos, playing cards and bingo. She was an avid fan of the Mariah Hill Yankees baseball team. Renola was a member of the Santa Claus American Legion Auxiliary Post 242; Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and its’ Ladies Sodality. She also served on the Bereavement Luncheon Group at Mary Help of Christians Church.

Cyrilla M. (Dotterwich) Schwindel, 89, of St. Meinrad, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Jasper.  Cyrilla was born November 27, 1924, in Ferdinand to Jacob and Mary (Weyer) Dotterwich.  She married Edwin H. Schwindel on October 29, 1946, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church.  Edwin preceded her in death on March 29, 1996. Cyrilla is survived by three daughters, Mary Lou Vaal and husband Gene of St. Meinrad, Mitzy Lewis and husband George of Bloomington, Brenda Braslow and husband Barry of Denver, CO; one half-sister, Henrietta Bishoff of Louisville, KY; 14 Grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  Cyrilla was preceded in death by her husband Edwin; a daughter, Kathy Spurlock; one granddaughter, Lynn Jeanette; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Leo Dotterwich; one sister, Dorothy Ebert; two half-brothers, Louis and Frank Fleck; and three half-sisters, Verona Spraggs, Josephine Boehman and Philomina Malone.

            Cyrilla was a life-long farmer and homemaker. She was a member of St. Meinrad Catholic Church Parish and its Ladies Sodality. She was also a member of American Legion Post 366 Auxiliary.

Betty Jean Rasche, 86, of Ferdinand, passed away at 4:15am Sunday, February 2, 2014 at her home in Ferdinand. Betty was born to John and Anna (Loehrlein) Hildenbrand on July 17, 1927 in St. Meinrad. She married Robert R. Rasche Sr. on November 18, 1947 in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church. He passed away in 1999.

Betty is survived by 5 sons, Robert Rasche Jr. and wife Diane of Mariah Hill, Lester and wife Ruth of Ferdinand, Steve and wife Jan of St. Meinrad, Donny and wife Martha of Ferdinand, Alan and wife Rhonda of St. Meinrad; 4 daughters, Linda Bouillon and husband Gary of Ireland, Carol Rasche of Ferdinand, Ann Schaeffer and husband Jeff of Birdseye, Mary Rasche of Ferdinand; 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive.

Betty was preceded in death by a daughter; Peggy Faulkenberg; a son, Danny Rasche; a grandson, Jason Faulkenberg; 4 brothers, Robert, Herman, Eddie and Louie Hildenbrand; 2 sisters, Agatha Hildenbrand and Elenora Schilling.

Betty was a member of St. Ferdinand Church parish. She was a former cook at Golden Circle Nursing Home in Dale and also at the Convent in Ferdinand. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, sewing, country drives, and loved attending family gatherings.

Rosalee Sheard, 70, of Bristow passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. She was born August 23, 1943 in Indianapolis to Thurman and Ruby (Jackson) Swan. Rosalee was semi-retired from a career in sales. She was a part owner of The Mary Rose Herb Farm near Bristow. Rosalee loved animals, cooking, 1950’s music and being with her grandchildren. Rosalee also enjoyed “junking” or selling miscellaneous items on Ebay.

Rosalee is survived by her life partner and soul mate, Richard Betz of Bristow, 2 sons, Tim Sheard of Austin, TX. and Terry Sheard of Indonesia; 1 daughter, Teresa Dafft of Spring, TX.; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive.

Delphine “Della” Catherine Reutman, 86 of Ferdinand, passed away Thursday, January 23rd at her home. Delphine was born November 24, 1927 in St. Meinrad to Odilo & Pauline (Konerding) Vaal. She married Clarence Reutman on May 29, 1954 at St. Meinrad Archabbey Church, St. Meinrad. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2008. Delphine was an amazing wife, mother & grandmother. She will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, sense of humor & honesty. Her example of thankfulness for all things will live on in the lives of her loved ones.

Della was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, and its St. Ann’s Sodality, & Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Auxiliary. She loved word search puzzles. She was preceded in death by 1 brother, Harold Vaal and a step-great-grandchild.

Surviving are 3 sons, Charles Reutman of Ferdinand, Terry Reutman and wife Cathy of Dale, John Reutman and wife Marna of Indianapolis; 5 daughters, Carol Bradford and husband Dave, Annette Dowell and husband Gary, & Jan Egenolf and husband Dan all of Mooresville, IN, Darlene Sarber and husband Ken of Dade City, FL, Angela Wilson and husband Rob of Micanopy, FL.

Also surviving are 3 brothers, Walter Vaal and wife Viola of Ferdinand, Arthur Vaal and wife Virginia of Jasper, & Tony Vaal and wife Linda of Michigan; 4 sisters, Verena Kempf of Huntingburg, Irma Kempf of St. Anthony, Annie Lange of Ferdinand, Mary Lee Luebbehusen and husband Sylvester of Haubstadt; 18 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Harlan J. Altman, 84 of Ferdinand, passed away Wednesday January 22nd  at his home in Ferdinand. Harlan was born January 22, 1930 in Ferdinand, IN to Cornelius & Henrietta (Leinenbach) Altman. He married Alba E. Meneghel on August 10, 1957 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Harlan retired from The Dubois County Bank/Ferdinand Branch as Manager & Assistant Vice-President. He was a board member of Marion Heights Academy for 25 years. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish. He was a graduate of Huntingburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 as a member of Military Police in Germany. He was a member & past commander of Ferdinand Legion Post 124, as well as a member of Huntingburg V.F.W. He was a member of Huntingburg Conservation Club and a member of the Dubois County Museum. Harlan enjoyed coin collecting, playing cards, traveling, and being with his nieces & nephews. He visited all 50 states and over 25 foreign countries.

William J. “Bill” Mohr Sr., 76 of Ferdinand, passed away Sunday January 19th in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand. He was born April 15, 1937 in Ferdinand to John Sr. & Augusta (Oser) Mohr. He married Julia Schwartz on June 8, 1956 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Bill worked for DMI, and retired from Jasper Cabinet. He also worked as a bartender at Fleigs Café, Ferdinand. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Huntingburg, St. Anthony Conservation Club, and a past member of Ferdinand Jaycees. He enjoyed hunting & fishing, playing cards, & woodworking. He loved to sit on his front porch and his deck.

Surviving are his wife, Julia Mohr, 4 daughters, Darlene Pickens and husband Mark of Medina, TN, Sue Mohr of Ferdinand, Cindy Greulich and husband Randal of Ferdinand, Phyllis Seifers & husband Bruce of Newton, IL; 1 son, Bill Mohr Jr. of Ferdinand; & 6 grandchildren & 6 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy M. Oeding91 of Ferdinand passed away Wednesday January 8, 2014 at her home in Ferdinand. She was born March 18,1922 in Jasper to Henry J. & Eleanora M. (Lechner) Stenftenagel . She married Emil J. Oeding on May 22,1945 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, he preceded her in death on February 24,1990.

Dorothy was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, and its St. Ann’s Sodality, Ferdinand Daughters Of Isabella, Ferdinand Home Economics Club, and Tri-County YMCA. She was a Gold Star Mother and a 35 year member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Auxillary.

She was preceded in death also by 1 son, Dennis L. Oeding, 1 daughter, Gloria M. Lange, 1 brother, Felix “Jim” Stenftenagel, and 1 great-grand daughter.

Surviving are 7 daughters, Diane Rasche and husband Robert Jr., Judy Brockman and husband Paul, Debbie Weyer and husband Alan, Sue Lange and husband Glenn, and Tammy Miller and husband Patrick all of Ferdinand. Shirley Oeding of Louisville, KY. & Jane Curtis and husband Stuart of Santa Claus. 4 sons, Dave “Petsy” Oeding, & Gary Oeding and wife Jane, and Mark Oeding all of Ferdinand. Tony Oeding and wife Tina of Fishers, IN. 25 grandchildren & 20 great-grand children.

6 sisters, Caroline Mehringer and husband Victor, Ruth Ann Beck, Mary Schitter and husband Kenneth, Anna Mae Hopf and husband Alfred, Patty Mathies and husband Delbert all of Jasper, & Lucille Recker of Ferdinand.

Karl S. Dilger, 96, of Mariah Hill, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2014 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Karl was born October 15, 1917 in Mariah Hill to Edward and Mary (Schum) Dilger. He married Juliana Wagner on September 3, 1940 in Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill. She preceded Karl in death on June 15, 1974. Karl married Marie (Bankford) Gaesser on July 19, 1975 in Mary Help of Christians Church.

            Karl is survived by his wife, Marie Dilger; three sons, Chester Dilger and wife LuAlice of Ferdinand, Samuel Dilger and wife LouAlice of Mariah Hill and Roger Dilger of Mariah Hill; two daughters, Andrea Wagner and husband Larry of St. Anthony and Vicki Keller and husband John of Mariah Hill; three step-sons, Ray Gaesser and wife Elaine of Corning, IA, Bob Gaesser and wife Ruth of Dale and Larry Gaesser and wife Mona of Gentryville; three step-daughters, Cathy Nolan and husband Mark of Indianapolis, Linda Droege and husband Gary of Wadesville, IN., and Mary Fischer and husband Dan of Ferdinand; 12 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren also survive.

          Karl was preceded in death by a daughter, Justine Schaefer; one step-son, David Gaesser; three brothers, Leonard, Hubert, and Richard Dilger; and 2 sisters, Amelia Hassfurther and Elnora Wessel.

Karl was a lifelong farmer who also worked in coalmines during the 1930’s. He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Church, Mariah Hill Conservation Club and Mariah Hill YMI.

Roberta E. Wagner, 93 of St. Anthony passed away Thursday December 26th in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. She was born July 10, 1920 in Jasper, IN to Jacob & Kathryn (Miller) Mundy. She married Othmar N. Wagner on May 10, 1941 in St. Joseph Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on October 11,1957.

Roberta was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, and its Christian Mothers Society. She was a cook at St. Anthony Elementary School, Palm Gardens in Bretzville, Jasper K of C, & V.F.W.  She also retired from Jasper Rubber Products. Roberta enjoyed embroidery, reading & cooking.

Surviving are 3 sons, Lawrence Wagner and wife Andrea of Huntingburg, Dennis Wagner and wife Arlene of St. Anthony, Othmar Wagner Jr. and wife Constance of Santa Claus; 3 daughters, Kathryn Keaton and husband Curtis, and Julia Ann Mitchell and husband Larry both of Jasper, & Phyllis Casper and husband Charles “Chuck” of St. Croix.  12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren also survive. 

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Jo Wagner, one grandson Robert Wagner, 4 brothers, John, Albert, Raymond, & Edwin Mundy, 4 sisters, Anna Mundy , Rosalyn Mundy, Leona Blessinger, Pauline Vogler.

Frieda C. Gehlhausen, 88, of Santa Claus, passed away at 2:40 AM, Monday, December 23, 2013 at Good Samaritan-Northwood in Jasper. She was born July 4, 1925 to Thomas and Emma (Hopf) Giesler at Jasper. Frieda married Jerome R. Gehlhausen on November 26, 1946 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2008.

Frieda is survived by 3 sons; Ronald Gehlhausen and wife Mary of Bretzville, Steven Gehlhausen and wife Lynda of Ferdinand and Gregory Gehlhausen of Santa Claus; 4 daughters, Donna Belkoski of Ferdinand, Gayla Utley and husband Wayne of Santa Claus, Shelly Haidari of Ferdinand, Kanda Wade and husband Randy of Santa Claus; 3 sisters, Caroline St. Clair of Cincinnati, OH., Rosalie “Rosie” Fromme of Jasper and Armella “Mell” Hale of Indianapolis; 20 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren also survive. Frieda was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; 3 children in infancy, Joseph, Mark and Mary; 4 brothers, Martin, Louis and Victor Giesler and Elmer  Thomas; 6 sisters, Hilda Kays, Margaret “Peggy” Schmitt, Katherine Kluemper-Lubbers, Bernadine Mehringer, Roberta Sternberg and in infancy Dorothy Mae Giesler.

Frieda was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 124 and St. Ferdinand Parish. She was formerly employed in the kitchen at the former Marion Heights Academy and also at General Electric in Huntingburg. Frieda enjoyed playing cards and quilting.

Elizabeth Rose “Betty” Kieper, 69 of Ferdinand, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Betty was born April 18, 1944, in Ferdinand to Albert  & Marcella (Kordes) Heidet.  She married Edwin F. Kieper on November 25,1971 in St. Henry Church, Belleville, IL.

Surviving are her husband Edwin F. “Ed” Kieper, 2 sons, Michael Kieper and his wife Michelle of Ferdinand, Stephen Kieper and his wife Melissa of Indianapolis;

2 daughters, Lisa Kieper of Nashville, TN & Sherly Stephens and her husband Jacob of Evansville. 6 grandchildren also survive.

Betty was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of St. Ferdinand Parish.

Elizabeth F. “Betty” Morris, 90, of Birdseye, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at The Timbers of Jasper. She was born June 5, 1923, in Kyana to Martin and Mary (Gunselman) Steffen. Elizabeth married Harry L. Morris on November 4, 1940 in St. Martins Catholic Church in Siberia. He preceded her in death on January 7, 1981.

Elizabeth is survived by six daughters, Sharron Cross of Princeton, KY, Shirley Grundhoefer of Owensboro, KY, Doris Pfaff and husband John of Birdseye, Donna Hasenour and husband Michael of Huntingburg, Debra Kunkler and husband John “Koonie” of Dale, Ruth Rasche and husband Lester of Ferdinand; one step-daughter, Mary Lou Foster of Galena, IN, 25 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; two sons, David and Dennis Morris; four brothers, Lawrence, Sylvester, John and Aloysius Steffen; two sisters, Matilda Abell and Clara Gunselman.

Richard “Dick” A. Gehlhausen, 68 of Dale, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. He was born July 31, 1945 in Evansville to Roy and Dorothy (Winiger) Gehlhausen. Richard married Joyce Dewig on June 15, 1968 in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt.

Richard is survived by his wife, Joyce; 2 sons, Keith Gehlhausen and wife Dorothy of Evansville and Jeffrey Gehlhausen of Montrose, CO; one brother Donald Gehlhausen; 3 grandchildren, Suzanne, Meg and Jon Gehlhausen. Richard was preceded in death by both parents.

Richard was retired from Leed Selling Tools Corp. He was a former member of the Army Reserves and Nativity Church Mens Club. He was an active Assistant Scout Master with Troop 312 in Evansville. Mitchell Aaron Haas, 21, of Ferdinand, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born August 8, 1992 in Jasper to Bradley and Karen (Mathies) Haas. Mitchell is survived by his parents Bradley and Karen of Ferdinand; 2 sisters, Brittney and Fiancé Steve Baer both of St. Louis, MO, and Morganne Haas at home; paternal grandmother, Marilyn Hopster and her husband Don of Huntingburg; maternal grandparents Norbert and Mary Rita Mathies of Ferdinand. Mitchell was preceded in death by his grandfather Robert Haas.

Mitchell was a mechanic at Cave Quarries. He was a 2011 graduate of Forest Park High School who went on to Vincennes University to earn a degree in Diesel Technology. Mitchell was a member of the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department where he previously participated as a Junior Firefighter for 7 years. He was a 10-year member of 4H shooting sports and a member of FFA. Mitchell participated in wrestling and football while at Forest Park. He enjoyed hunting, hanging out with friends and 4-Wheeling.

Frances E. Meyer, 87, of Ferdinand, died Sunday December 8, 2013 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center. She was born May 17, 1926 to Anthony and Minnie (McKenzie) Kunkler in Huntingburg. She married Eugene J. Meyer on May 6, 1947 in Huntingburg. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1992.

Frances is survived by 7 daughters, Nancy Knies and husband Hermie of Jasper, Jane Meyer of Jasper, Marilyn Hagerman and husband Everett of Ooltewah, TN, Connie Gehlhausen and husband Ronald of Birdseye, Bonnie Gehlhausen and husband Chris of Birdseye, Lisa Gehlhausen and husband Robert of Huntingburg, and Joan Meyer of Evansville; 2 sons, Donald Meyer and wife Paulette of Newburgh and David Meyer of Ferdinand; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also survive.

Frances was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Theresa Wehr and Angela Ramsey; 1 grandson Tim Schneller and a son in infancy Ralph Meyer; 4 sisters, Gloria Kunkler, Mary Gramelspacher, Dorothy Schnepper and Verena Steffen; 3 brothers, Ben, Anthony and Rev. Fr. Victor Kunkler.

Frances was retired from General Electric in Huntingburg. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Her hobbies included word search books, cooking and baking. Gerald “Jerry” Herbig, 76 of Ferdinand, passed away Friday December 6th at his home in Ferdinand. He was born April 10, 1937 in Jasper to Othmar & Juanita (Goldman) Herbig. He married Barbara Olinger on May 28, 1960 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife Barbara Herbig; 1 son, Rick Herbig and his wife Ava of Cincinnati, OH; 2 daughters, Debbie Hoffman and husband Phil, and Sue Herbig both of Jasper; and 4 grandchildren.  Also surviving are 3 brothers, Tony Herbig of Ferdinand, Ron Herbig of California, Jim Herbig of Atlanta, GA; 4 sisters, Mrs. Allen (Marlene) Merkel of Jasper, Mrs. Rich (Betty) Helming & Mrs. Albert (Janice) Berger both of Ferdinand, and Mrs. Marty (Gloria) Nosko of Boonville.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and 2 grandchildren. Jerry was a Route Salesman for of 7-UP bottling company. He was a Salesman at Marketing & Management Insurance Company from which he retired after 15 years. He was an Army National Guard Member. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality; St. Meinrad K of C Council # 5599, the Ferdinand Community Center, and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124.

Richard E. Lange, 83, of Ferdinand, passed away Thursday December 5, 2013 at his home. Richard was born June 16, 1930 to Herman and Ida (Begle) Lange in Ferdinand. He married Aleene Blessinger on April 19, 1952 in St. Joseph Church in Jasper.

Richard is survived by his wife Aleene Lange; 3 sons, Jim Lange and wife Maria, Ken Lange and wife Selma, Dick Lange and wife Jane; 2 daughters, Bonnie Kerstiens and husband Gene, Judy Englert and husband Greg all of Ferdinand; one sister Lastie Carl of  New Albany; one brother, Norman Lange of Ferdinand; half sister, Bernita Metz of St. Anthony; half brother, Donnie Hoppenjans of Ferdinand; seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also survive. Richard was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Johnny Lange, Ernest Lange and Alfred Lange; one sister, Minnie Hoppenjans.

Richard was a retired farmer. He was past Director of Farm Bureau Co-Op, past Director of Farm Bureau as well as past Director of Huntingburg Conservation Club. He was a member of St. Anthony and Ferdinand Senior Citizens, St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. Richard enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, spending time with family and friends and playing cards and dominos.

David Anthony Auffart, 18 of Ferdinand passed away Saturday November 16,2013 near Bristow, In. David was born March 30,1995 in Jasper to Daryl & Cathy (Lasher) Auffart.

David was a freshman at Purdue University and a farmer. He was a graduate of Forest Park  High School, 2013, where he was an honor roll student, competed on academic teams, and played the Baritone Saxophone in the Rangers 2012 state championship marching band. At Forest Park he was a member of the FFA, Beta Club, National Honor Society & Natural Helpers Group. He was active in Forest Park Musicals.  He was an active member of St. Ferdinand Parish, where he was a Youth Group Leader, Eucharistic Minister, and Youth Choir Member. At Purdue he was a member of The Fall Concert Band , & Black & Gold Sound, and a member of the Lifelong Purdue Alumni Association. He enjoyed farming, HALO, Nature & Being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather David L. Lasher.

Survivors include his parents, Daryl & Cathy Auffart of Ferdinand, 3 sisters, Tempa Auffart, his twin sister, Kelley Auffart & Rylee Auffart all of Ferdinand. His paternal grandparents, Anthony & Jeanette Auffart of Ferdinand, and his maternal grandmother, Barbara Lasher of Tell City.

Raymond Ira Coyer, 69, of Santa Claus, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis. Raymond was born February 21, 1944 to Ira and Marie (Bowen) Coyer in Gowanda, NY. He married Louise A. Smith on June 20, 2009 at Peace Episcopal Church in Rockport, IN.

Raymond was a retired Electrical Engineer at Richardson Electrical in LaFox, IL. He was a Volunteer Firefighter & E.M.T.for 35 years in Moecherville, IL Fire Department where he attained the rank of captain. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was owner/operator of Walnut Hill American Eskimo Dog Rescue in Santa Claus. 

Surviving are his wife, Louise A. (Smith) Coyer; 1 son, Timothy and wife Jennifer Coyer of Aurora, IL; 2 daughters, Debra Coyer of Marsailles, IL, & Jennifer Wilson of Aurora, IL; 4 step-daughters, Lisa Sallee of Inglewood, FL, Laura and husband Gary Yoder of Evansville, LeAnn and husband Robert Stern of Inglewood, FL, & Ami Sallee of Tampa, FL. Also surviving is Raymond’s mother, Marie Coyer of Great Valley, NY, a brother, Martin Coyer and wife Lorelei of Aston, TN, a sister, Lois Smith and husband Jim of Lehigh Acres, FL, and 8 grandchildren and 9 step-grandchildren.

She married Raymond Bartell on August 17, 1943, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Ferdinand. He preceded her in death in 1998.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Maryann Bartell of Chapel Hill, NC; 4 sons, James Bartell of Long Beach, CA, Raymond Bartell Jr. of Big Rapids, MI, William “Bill” Bartell of Cincinnati, OH, & Robert “Bob” Bartell of Lansing, MI. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Rosemary Downing of Russellville, OH, Virginia Hubert of St. Croix, & Rita Buechlein of Huntingburg; and 3 brothers, Leroy Oser of Siberia, Edward Oser of Ferdinand, & George Oser of Mariah Hill. Also surviving are several nieces & nephews.

Henrietta was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Barbara Carter; 3 sisters, Dolores Carnahan, Margaret Martin, and Louisia Oser in infancy; 3 brothers, Alfred “Jim” Oser, Walter Oser, and Robert  “Bob” Oser; and her step-mother Olivia (Meyer) Oser.

Henrietta was a retired church secretary, a member of St. Meinrad Post 366 Auxiliary, & St. Marys Catholic Church in Huntingburg. She enjoyed knitting.

Funeral services will be held 10:00AM CST Tuesday in St. Martin Of Tours Catholic Church in Siberia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Friends may call from 4 to 8PM CST Monday & 7:00 to 9:30AM CST Tuesday at the Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Etta Marie Klem, 92 of Ferdinand, passed away Monday, November 4th, 2013, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.  Etta was born November 9th, 1920, to Bernard & Catherine (Fischer) Gadlage in Celestine.  She married Hilbert Klem on April 24th, 1946, in Celestine; he passed away August 15th, 1979.  

Etta is survived by one son, Bernard “Butch” Klem and spouse Doris of Ferdinand; Four daughters, Becky Emmons and spouse Rick of Ferdinand, Marcy Knust and spouse John of Ferdinand, Mary Hoffman of St. Anthony, Phyllis Reynolds and spouse Tom of Huntingburg; One sister, Alvina Schnell of Jasper; Eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren also survive. Etta was preceded in death by her husband Hilbert; a daughter, Luann; a son, Randy; Three brothers, Roman, Herman and Ralph in infancy; Five sisters, Veronica Hoffman, Ella Fritz, Minnie Nordhoff, Gertrude Gehlhausen and Clara Schulz.

Etta was a homemaker who enjoyed altering clothes, crocheting and sewing. She sat with the elderly and cleaned the Ferdinand Church Rectory. Etta was a member of Saint Ferdinand Church Parish where she taught religion and also belonged to it’s St. Ann’s Sodality. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8:00 PM and Friday from 7-9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home. Linus F. Rahman, 90, of Ferdinand, passed away Monday November 4, 2013 at Memorial Health Center in Jasper. He was born June 25, 1923, in Spencer County to Frank and Christine (Pund) Rahman. Linus married Hilda Metzger on August 26, 1947, in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Linus is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hilda; 4 sons, Alan and spouse Georgia, Edwin and spouse Gloria, Steve and spouse Angela all of Ferdinand, and Frank and spouse Mary of Santa Claus; 7 Daughters, Marcella Harpenau and spouse Paul of Branchville, Margaret Hoffman and spouse David, Mary Jo Giesler and spouse William, Doris Klem and spouse Bernard “Butch” all of Ferdinand, Carol Lueken and spouse Kenneth of Hatfield, MO, Martha Demuth and spouse Charles of St. Meinrad, Connie Mundy and spouse Steve of Jasper; 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren also survive. Linus was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Herbert Rahman, Henry Rahman and a sister Marcella Rahman.

Linus was a retired dairy farmer since 1988. He was a member of the Ferdinand American Legion Post 124; Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church and its St. Joseph Sodality; & a Lifetime Member of Merrills’ Marauders 475th 2nd Battalion. Linus received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, WW II Victory Medal, Bronze Star Medal and China Ribbon.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8:00PM and from 7-9:30AM Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00AM in Saint Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct Military Graveside Rights.
