David L. Daunhauer, 76 of Ferdinand passed away Wednesday April 15th in Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born October 27,938 in Ferdinand to Walter & Leonilla (Lindauer) Daunhauer. He married Marie S. Krampe on September 20,958 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church.

He retired from Wilmes Window in Ferdinand after 53 years. He was an avid collector of antiques, and Native American artifacts. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan, and enjoyed spending time with family & friends at the cabin by the lake.He was a former member of the Indiana National Guard.

Surviving are his wife, Marie S. Krampe Daunhauer, 2 daughters, Jenifer L. Daunhauer Voegerl and husband Kevin and Stephanie Daunhauer Hentrup both of Ferdinand. 2 sons, Dean Daunhauer and wife Jennifer of Ferdinand, and Troy Daunhauer of Fishers, In. 6 grandchildren, Evan & Collin Daunhauer,Chelsea & Sierra Voegerl, and Rachel & Shannon Hentrup. He was preceded in death by 1 grandson, Shane Voegerl, and his parents.

Thomas (Chris) Shreve,
72 of Santa Claus passed away Sunday, March 29th in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born July 26, 1942 in Dearborn, MI. to Tom & Marian (Potter) Shreve. He married Gloria W. Wollenmann on July 26, 1975 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church, Ferdinand.

Thomas was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Santa Claus. He retired from Abbott Laboratory, in Logistic International Management.  He graduated from University of Detroit High School, School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and received a MBA degree from University of Michigan. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served in Government Intelligence.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years Gloria W. Shreve, 1 host daughter, Jeanette Cepedes-Dufrene and husband Andre of New Orleans, LA; 2 grandchildren Gabriella and Rafel. Step sister, Susan Shreve of Michigan, and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 10th in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial of cremains will be in St. Ferdinand Church Cemetery. Clara F. Schnieders,
95, of Ferdinand, passed away, Saturday, March 14th at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. Clara was born, January 1, 1920 in Ferdinand to Edward and Mary (Heilers) Altmeyer. She married Ralph Schnieders on May 2, of 1946 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He passed away on January 6, 1953.

Clara was a factory worker at Aristocraft and Ferdinand Furniture. She also cleaned offices at OFS. Clara was a member of St. Ferdinand Church Parish. She enjoyed praying the rosary during long walks.

Clara is survived by four daughters; Mary Rasche and husband Jim of Jasper, Jane Potter of Ferdinand, Lori Schnieders of Ferdinand, Ruth Selzer and husband Allen of Chrisney; one son, Ralph (Buck) Schnieders of Ferdinand; one sister, Evelyn Brockman of Ferdinand; seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Clara was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Kay in infancy; two sisters, Agnes Schnieders and Margaret Spayd; one granddaughter, Emily Selzer.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8:00 PM and Wednesday from 7-9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Gary A. Trafton, 62 of Ferdinand passed away Tuesday March 10th at his home in Ferdinand. He was born January 23, 1953 in Evansville to William & Helen (Sofer) Trafton. He married Donna Burger on November 11, 1977 in Nashville, TN.

Gary was a self- employed Piano Manufacturer Distributor. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed movies. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles Trafton

Surviving are his wife Donna R. Trafton, 1 son, Aaron Trafton of Ferdinand. 1 brother, Terry Trafton and his wife Joyce of North Carolina, sister-in-law, Elaine Trafton of Boonville. Several nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM Sunday March 15th at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3:00 PM Sunday. Miles C. Goforth,
71, of St. Meinrad, passed away, Tuesday, March 10th at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. Miles was born December 14, 1943 to Bill and Nancy (Boyd) Goforth in Somersett, KY. Miles married Darleen Ferris in 1968 in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death in 1983. Miles was a retired truck driver and a self-employed landscaper. Miles was U.S. Army Veteran and a member of St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366. He belonged to the Huntingburg Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Miles enjoyed fishing and helping family and friends.

Miles is survived by his companion, Geneva (Wiley) Goforth of Dale; two sons, William F. Goforth of Indianapolis and Miles S. “Sam” Goforth of St. Meinrad; one daughter, Tammy Hatfield and husband (Jeff) of Huntingburg; two sisters, Sue Taylor of Somersett, KY., Sybil Dillion of Indianapolis; one brother, George Goforth of Somersett, KY.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Miles was preceded in death by three brothers; Wayne Goforth and in infancy, Bobby and David Goforth.

James Anthony “Jack” Hauser,
79 of Santa Claus, In. formerly of Terre Haute, passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and children on Tuesday March 10th. Jack fought a brave and stoic battle with cancer. He was born March 9, 1936 in Schnellville, In. to Jacob & Cornelia (Troxler) Hauser. He married the former Mary G. “Gerry” Mehling on May 4,1957 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Ferdinand, In. Jack enjoyed a distinguished career having served in various positions at the Western & Southern Insurance Company in Tell City & Terre Haute, and later with the Sycamore Insurance Company in Terre Haute. Jack was involved in many philanthropic and community organizations. He was a former president of Big Brother/ sisters of Vigo County, president and senator of Ferdinand Jaycees, and president of the Central Eastside Merchants. He was a member of Rotary Club International, Optimist Club, Santa Claus Knights of Columbus, and St. Nicholas Parish. Jack enjoyed golf, fishing trips with his brothers, traveling, woodworking, and spending time with his family and cherished friends.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gerry Hauser. 3 daughters, Beth Fields and husband Dave of Terre Haute, Laura Reeder and husband Jeff of Avon, and Amy Keen and husband Chris of Brazil, In. 2 sons, Jeff Hauser and wife Patti of Terre Haute, and Glenn Hauser and wife Mary of Brownsburg. 10 Grandchildren, Eric Fields, Emily Wallace, Adam Hauser, Lucy Hauser, Helen Hauser, Jared, Evan, and Katie Reeder, Hannah Clark, Logan Keen, and one great-grand daughter, Evelyn Wallace. 5 brothers, Dan Hauser and wife Rosie of Schnellville, Fred Hauser and wife Eileen of Ferdinand, Bill Hauser and wife Ruth of St. Anthony, Kenny Hauser and wife Connie of Bluffton, & Steve Hauser and wife Eileen of Schnellville. 2 sisters, Mary Sue Johnson and husband Gary of Santa Claus, and Judy Hauser of Ferdinand. Several nieces & nephews; and a loyal companion “Mazie” He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Stuart & Ricky Hauser.

Larry Gene Partenheimer, 59, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, March 5th in Evansville. Larry was born to Edwin Jacob and Amanda (Dillman) Partenheimer on October 29, 1955 in Huntingburg. Larry was a Veteran of the U.S Army. He enjoyed cooking, camping, caring for senior citizens and the disabled. Larry was a self-employed hairdresser. Larry is survived by three brothers, Roy and wife Janet of Birdseye, Thomas and wife Linda of Celestine, Chester and wife Alice of Jasper; five sisters, Janice Brown  of Eckerty, Shirley Welp and husband Thomas of Celestine, Betty Giddens and husband Dwight of Birdseye, Rita Wagner and husband Bernie of Huntingburg, Mona Wright and husband Larry of Birdseye. Larry was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Wohlgemuth and his parents.  A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. There will be a family gathering from 5:00 PM until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Trent Alan Schum,

of Santa Claus passed away Monday March 2nd in Santa Claus. He was born September 14,1992 in Evansville, In. to Marc & Gina (Hagedorn) Schum.

Surviving are his parents, Marc & Gina Schum of Santa Claus.  2 sisters, Janae Schum of Indianapolis, and Morgan Schum of Santa Claus. His maternal grandmother, Faye Hagedorn of Santa Claus, and Paternal grandmother, Kathryn Schum of Dale.  He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Edward A. Hagedorn and James Schum.

Trent was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Santa Claus. He was a 2011 graduate of Heritage Hills High School where he participated in wrestling. He attended Western Kentucky University where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He worked at Best Home Furnishings in Ferdinand. Trent enjoyed being with family & friends.

William J. (Sam) Schlachter, 82, of Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. Sam was born February 7, 1933 in Ferdinand to William and Philomena (Sternberg) Schlachter. He married Frances Otto on June 18, 1955 in St. Martins Catholic Church in Siberia. Sam was a retired self-employed farmer. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church and St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366. Sam was a Korean Era Army Veteran.

Sam is survived by his wife Frances Schlachter of Ferdinand; two daughters, Susanne (Susy) Cooper of Ferdinand and Jane Ubelhor and husband Don of Birdseye; one sister, Lucille Lemmer of Jasper; four grandchildren, Erin Sisley, Brad Cooper, Jared Ubelhor and Alison Cooper; one great-grandchild, Madison Sisley. Sam was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Arehart Henke.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM CDT in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Siberia with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Norman V. Lange
, 79 of Ferdinand passed away Tuesday February 24, 2015 in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center, Jasper. He was born April 13,1935 in Ferdinand to Herman & Ida (Begle) Lange. He married Sharon M. Rogier on August 22,1987 in St. Isidore Catholic Church in Bristow, In.

Norman retired from Styline Furniture, Manufacturing Division after 46 years. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish. He enjoyed watching game shows, attending car shows, and especially loved Corvettes. He enjoyed being with his family & friends.

Surviving are his wife Sharon M. Lange.  1 daughter, Holly Lange of Ferdinand. 2 sisters, Bernita Metz and husband Linus of St. Anthony, & Lastie Carl of New Albany. 1 brother, Donald Hoppenjans and wife Ann of Ferdinand. Sister-in-laws, Aleene Lange and Anna Lange both of Ferdinand.

He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Richard, Alfred “Shorty”, John, & Ernest Lange. 1 sister, Hermina “Minnie” Hoppenjans

Merilee D. Bishop
, 85, of Santa Claus, passed away, February 17th at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Merilee was born February 26, 1929 in Dallas County, Missouri to Abner and Dorothy (Austin) Dill. Merilee was owner and operator of The Frame Up in Mt. Vernon TX. She was a former teacher in a one room schoolhouse in Dallas County, Missouri. Merilee enjoyed cross stitching, caring for her plants and was an avid reader.

Merilee is survived by one son, Darren Laughlin of Santa Claus; one daughter, Gayle Ann Laughlin of Aloha, OR.; two brothers, Jim Dill of Peculiar, MO.; Gayle Dill of Springfield, MO.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Merilee was preceded in death by a son, George Laughlin.

Dorothy M. Hessig
, 77 of St. Meinrad passed away Monday February 16, 2015 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born February 23, 1937 in St. Meinrad to William & Opal (Kline) Seifrig. She married Arthur J. Hessig on April 27,1957 in St. Meinrad Catholic Church. Arthur died on February 12,2005.

Dorothy was a member of St. Meinrad Parish and was a member of St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366 Auxillary. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She retired from Masterbrand Cabinets, formerly Aristocraft Cabinets in Ferdinand.

Surviving are 2 sons, Mike Hessig of Liberty, N.C. and Dave Hessig of Ferdinand. 2 daughters, Diane King of Huntingburg and Beverly Beier and husband Stephen of St. Meinrad. 14 grandchildren ,  12 great-grandchildren & 2 step-great grandchildren. 3 brothers, Paul Seifrig and wife Linda of Adyeville, Roger Seifrig and wife Mary Ellen of St. Meinrad, and Donald Seifrig and wife Kathy of Dale. 3 sisters, Alice Stillwell and husband Tom & Helen Stillwell and husband Harold both of Birdseye, & Mildred Harpenau and husband Larry of Tell City.

She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Louis, Ralph, Ted, and Leroy Seifrig. 1 sister, Pat Aldridge and a grandson, Nicholas Leinenbach.

Marlene A. Braunecker
, 62 of Huntingburg passed away Tuesday February 3, 2015 at her home. She was born April 18,1952 in Spencer County to Othmar J. & Hilda T. (Schaefer) Ebert. She married Gene Braunecker on October 25, 1975 in Saint Meinrad Catholic Church, St. Meinrad.

Marlene was a retired teacher in the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation. She taught for 35 years. After retirement she worked at the Ferdinand Branch Library. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish. Marlene was preceded in death by her father, Othmar J. Ebert

Surviving are her husband Gene Braunecker, 2 sons, Brett Braunecker and his wife Jennifer of Brownsburg, In. & Jason Braunecker and his wife Jessica of Maysville, Missouri.  3 grandchildren, Madelyn, Noah, & Cora Braunecker. Her mother, Hilda T. Ebert of Ferdinand, 4 sisters, Norma Murray and her husband James of Kokomo, In., Diane Balbach and husband David of Dale, Sandy Meyer and husband Steve of Lexington, Ky., and Terri Carson and husband Jeff of Carmel. 1 brother, Sylvan Ebert and his wife Linda of Greenwood. Her best friend Cathy Altman of Ferdinand. Also surviving are several nieces & nephews.

Lawrence V. “Larry” Willegal
, 90, of Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, January 25th at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Lawrence was born April 6, 1924 in Whitewater, WI. to Andrew and Amanda (Raabe) Willegal. He married Mary C. Barnett on August 18, 1951 at St. Nicholas Church in Milwaukee, WI. Mary passed away on February 26, 2009. Lawrence was retired from Alen-Bradley Corp. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and an Oblate of St. Benedict He was a former member of St. Nicholas Church in Milwaukee, WI. Lawrence enjoyed Wii Golf, model cars and needlepointing.

Lawrence is survived by two daughters, Mary A. Willegal and Sr. Kate Willegal, OSB both of Ferdinand; one son, Lawrence J. Willegal and wife Carol of Fredonia, WI; one grandson, Johnathan and a great-grandson, Nash. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Mary C.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8:00 pm and Wednesday from 7-9:30 am at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 am in St. Ferdinand Church with burial to immediately follow in the church cemetery. Jacob “Jake” Meyer
, 21 of Saint Anthony passed away Friday January 16th in Bloomington IU Health Hospital in Bloomington. Jacob was born November 29,1993 in Huntingburg to Matthew L. & Sharon K. (Wagner) Meyer. Jacob was in his junior year at Indiana University in Bloomington. He was a member of the graduating class of 2012 at Forest Park High School. He was an avid sports fan of IU basketball, Saint Louis Cardinal Baseball, and the Indianapolis Colts. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting & Golf. Jacob was an organ & tissue donor.

Surviving are his parents, Matt & Sharon Meyer of Huntingburg. 1 sister, Kate Meyer and 1 brother, Aaron Meyer both of Huntingburg. Maternal grandmother, Mary Jane Wagner of St. Anthony. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, & cousins. Jake was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Richard Wagner, and his paternal grandparents, Marie & Leo Meyer.

Anthony N. “Tony” Auffart,
77 of Ferdinand passed away Tuesday January 13, 2015 at 3:37 am in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center, Jasper. He was born September 26, 1937 in Ferdinand to Martin & Henrietta (Bachman) Auffart. He married Jeanette Reutman on September 10, 1966 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Anthony was a retired purchasing agent at DMI Furniture & Jasper Seating Co. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its’ St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was also a member of the Ferdinand Community Center.  He served in the Indiana National Guard. He enjoyed woodworking & farming.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Auffart. 2 sons, Daryl Auffart and his wife Cathy of Ferdinand, & Brian Auffart of Terre Haute. 3  Daughters, Renee Fehribach and husband Brett of Ferdinand, Tricia Young and husband Chris of Otwell, Nicole Auffart and fiance’ Mike Peragine of Warren, MI. 8 grandchildren, Tempa, Kalley, David, Rylee, Cosette, Beckett, Conner, Keena, & Kahle. 1 sister, Mary Heberer of Ferdinand. 1 brother, Joseph V. Auffart and wife Lyra of Jasper. 

He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Auffart, 2 sisters, Ruthie Auffart and Emma Jean Reutman, 2 brothers, James H. Auffart and Robert Auffart.

Adeline M. Beier
, 74 of Fulda passed away Wednesday January 7th in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand.

She was born January 21,1940 in Fulda to Anton & Rose (Wink) Waninger, She married Richard Beier on July 16,1960 in Saint Boniface Catholic Church.

Adeline was retired from St. Meinrad Archabbey, and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish and its’ Ladies Sodality. She was a member of the Fulda Sportsman Club. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, raising flowers, playing cards, puzzles and her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Richard Beier of Fulda, 3 daughters, Denise Gehlhausen and husband Tim of Bristow, Joyce Merkley and her husband Paul of Celestine, Carla Libbert and husband Roger of Ferdinand. Sons, Stephen Beier and wife Bev of Fulda, Daniel Beier and companion Kellie Clark of Fulda. 17 grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren. 3 brothers, 2 step-grandchildren. Richard Waninger and wife Nelda of Magnet, Kenny Waninger and wife Jo Ann of Fulda, & Eugene Waninger and wife Carol of Santa Claus. 1 sister, Carol Vaal and husband Tom of St. Meinrad.

She was preceded in death by 1 son, Stanley Beier, sisters, Lorena Meyer, Esther Meyer, & Marcella Fetter. 1 brother, James Waninger.

Julia A. Mohr, 75, of Ferdinand, passed away Tuesday, January 6th at her home.

Julia was born May 12, 1939 in Huntingburg to Alfred (Pete) And Lucille (Dorsam) Schwartz.  She married William (Bill) Mohr on June 8, 1957 in St. Ferdinand Church. Bill died on January 19, 2014. Julia was retired from Mobel Inc. and had previously worked at Ferdinand Furniture and Fleigs Café. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish; Ferdinand American Legion Auxiliary; Fraternal order of Eagles Huntingburg and St. Anthony Conservation Club. Julia enjoyed playing cards, cooking, spending time with family and embroidery of quilt blocks. Her favorite flowers were red geraniums and roses.

Julia is survived by four daughters, Darlene Pickens and husband Mark of Medina TX., Phyllis Seifers and husband Bruce of Newton IL., Cindy Greulich and husband Randy of Ferdinand, Sue Mohr of Ferdinand; one son, Bill Mohr Jr. of Ferdinand; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Brinkman and husband Bernie, Doris Dittmer and husband Bill all of Huntingburg, Marilyn Seger and husband Jim of Mariah Hill, Linda Nordhoff and husband Lenny of Holland; one brother, Dave Schwartz and wife Peggy of Huntingburg. Julia was preceded in death by both parents and her husband Bill.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8:00pm and Friday from 7-9:30am at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Roman G. Kiefer, 89, Ferdinand formerly of St. Meinrad passed away Tuesday January 6, 2015 at 1:50 AM in Northwood Retirement Community, Jasper.

He was born July 21,1925 in Jasper to Robert & Martina (Burger) Kiefer. He married Cecelia Meyer on July 1,1950 in St. Meinrad Archabbey church. She preceded him in death on January 6,2013.

Roman was retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 30 years. He served on the USS Princeton during WWII and was aboard when the ship was sunk. He was a member of St. Meinrad Legion Post 366, & Jasper V.F. W. Post # 673, a member of Fleet reserve of Owensboro. He enjoyed fixing electrical appliances, & sharpening saws.

Survivors include; 1 son, Terry L. Kiefer and his wife Stella of Lawrenceville, IL. 2 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren. 1 sister, Helen Kiefer of Jasper and 1 brother, Otto Kiefer of Holland. His caregivers, Betty Kirkhoff and her husband John of Evanston He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Kiefer, sisters, Annie Siefrig and Rosalyn Schmitt. Brothers, George, John, Hugo, Robert,   Ambrose Kiefer.

Hilda M. (Heilers)  Daunhauer
, 94, of Ferdinand died Sunday January 4 at Scenic Hills Care Center.

She was born February 26, 1920 to William and Mary (Wassing) Heilers in Mariah Hill Indiana. She married Dorcy (“Hap”) Daunhauer in Ferdinand on May 27, 1947.  He preceded her in death September 3, 1989.

She and Hap owned  and operated the Oasis is Ferdinand for several years.  She  also worked at and retired from Aristokraft  and from Kordes Retreat Center.  She was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, St. Anne’s Sodality, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, traveling and being with family and friends. She especially enjoyed travels to Alaska and Africa.

Survivors include four children,  Ann  Simons and husband Ernie of Sheridan, In.  Jeanne BenLamine and husband Hammauda of Newburgh,  John Daunhauer and wife Cheryle of Holland, and Mike Daunhauer and wife Debbie of Port Orford, Oregon.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Hew Simons,  Mike Brinksneader,  Hassan BenLamine, Hannah Thyen, Laura Whitsitt and Traci Mattingly; and 13 great grand children.

Also Preceding her in death was one child , infant, Ruth, one grandson, Ahmad BenLamine, and nine brothers and sisters;  Robert Heilers,  Albert Heilers,  Irvin Heilers, Cecelia Heilers, infant, Helen ( Othmar “Oats”) Weyer ,  Emma Cummings (Tom), Eleanor Rupprecht (“Maxi”),  Verena Buren (Don) and Lucille (Walter) Bartley.

Velma O. Grundhoefer,
97 of Mariah Hill, IN. passed away Wednesday December 31st   at 12:20 AM in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand. She was born January 23, 1917 in Mariah Hill to Simon & Philomena (Seufert) Nord. She married Raymond Grundhoefer November 25, 1937 in Mary Help Of Christians Church. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1980.

Surviving are four daughters, Shirley Boeckman of Santa Claus, Kathleen Kemper and husband Jim, Sandra Hagedorn, and Ruth Burger all of Ferdinand.  Two sons, Ronald Grundhoefer and wife Joan of Newburgh, & Kenneth Grundhoefer and wife Esther of Evansville. 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, & 4 great-great grandchildren.  One brother, Sylvester Nord and wife Alice of Ferdinand and one sister, Vernita “Nita” Lueken both of Ferdinand.  She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Emil, Francis “Bencie”, & Jim Nord. 3 sisters, Loretta Nord, Edna Roll, & Bernice Smith. 2 great-grandchildren, Jonah Rickelman & Abram Burger.

Velma was a member of Mary Help Of Christians Parish and it’s Ladies Sodality. She was a homemaker, She received the honorary Brute’ Award in 2006. She was a member of Mariah Hill Conservation Club, and Mary Help Of Christians Parish Picnic Turtle Soup Chairperson. She was a former Spencer County Democrat Precinct Committeeman. She enjoyed playing cards, butchering, attending sporting activities, and working outdoors.

Norma L. Bockelman
, 83 of Ferdinand passed away Tuesday December 30th at 4:30 AM in Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was born March 17, 1931 in Ferdinand to William & Henrietta (Schaefer) Rickelman. She married Harold L. Bockelman June 25, 1955 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2007.

Norma was a former employee at General Electric in Tell City, and Aristocraft Cabinets in Ferdinand. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and it’s St. Ann’s Sodality, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Auxillary, and Ferdinand Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and cooking. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Bender & Marcella “Sally” Mehling, and a brother, Ralph J. Rickelman.

Surviving are 1 son, Mark Bockelman and his wife Jean of Indianapolis. 3 grandchildren & 1 great-grandchild.

Bernadette M. Mundy
, 84, of Ferdinand, passed away at 6:15 AM, Friday, December 26, 2014 at her home. Bernadette was born November 10, 1930 in Celestine to Henry and Petronella (Hoffman) Humbert. She married Orville P. Mundy on October 2, 1954 in Celestine. Orville passed away on July 29, 2008. Bernadette was retired from Vincennes University Jasper Center. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Bernadette enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning, quilts and collecting angels. She also played the organ at Saint Celestine Church.

Bernadette is survived by five daughters, Rebecca Taylor of Evansville and her companion Ricky Ewton of Dunlap, TN., Ruth Sterling and husband Elisha of Washington, Mary Mundy and companion William Robinson of Lynnville, Karen Beckman and husband Mark of St. Anthony, Elaine Duncan of Huntingburg; nine sons, Larry and wife Kathy, Joseph and wife Tammy all of Ferdinand, Kevin, Gary and companion Jayne Hurst all of St. Anthony, Steve of Birdseye and Mark and wife Linda all of Birdseye, Thomas and wife Jodi of Huntingburg,  Patrick of Mariah Hill and Chris Mundy of Washington; forty one grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one brother, Victor Humbert & wife Loretta of Celestine; one sister, Dorothy Merter of Celestine; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Mundy of Ferdinand. Bernadette was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Mundy; two brothers, George and Edward Humbert; her twin sister, Henrietta Humbert.

Martina C. Gaesser, 89 of Ferdinand passed away Monday December 22nd at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born June 11, 1925 in Ferdinand to Edward & Caroline (Hoppenjans) Schipp. She married Gervase A. Gaesser on September 10, 1946 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2003.

Survivors include 2 sons, David Gaesser and wife Carol, & Larry Gaesser and wife Denise both of Ferdinand.  3 daughters, Martha Gagne and husband Deacon Jerry, & Kathy Dorsam and husband Randy both of Jasper, Mary Wehr and husband Greg of Bretzville.  11 grandchildren & 11 great-grandchildren. 1 sister Bernida Bredhold and husband Ferrel of Ferdinand.

Martina was a member of Saint Ferdinand Parish and its St. Ann’s Sodality. Ferdinand Daughters of Isabella. She was a homemaker.  She enjoyed quilting, baking, Crocheting, & playing cards. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Norman, Norbert, & Othmar Schipp. 1 sister, Edwina Gogel.

John C. Hagedorn, 69, of Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, November 30, 2014 at his home. He was born July 22, 1945 in Perry County, IN to Clarence and Olivia A. (Naviaux) Hagedorn. He married Marilyn Knies on August 16, 1969 in St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, IN.
 John was the owner/operator of Hagedorns' Service Center in Ferdinand. He opened on Main Street in Ferdinand in March of 1964 when he was only 18 years old, and operated the business for 50 years. John enjoyed helping people and taking care of his customers, especially people traveling in need of help. He enjoyed antique cars, especially International Scouts. John enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, cutting firewood, planting trees, art, painting and music. John was a member of Saint Ferdinand Parish, and was a member and past president of its St. Joseph's Sodality. He served in the Indiana National Guard and also in the Cyclone Division of the 38th Infantry.
 John is survived by his wife, Marilyn Hagedorn of Ferdinand; two sons, Andy Hagedorn and wife Amy of Ferdinand, Alex Hagedorn and wife Ilona of Lousiville, KY; one daughter, Amy Wonder and husband Mike of Bloomington, IN; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Michael Hagedorn and wife Karen of Bristow, Bernard Hagedorn and wife Deborah of Vincennes, Fred Hagedorn and wife Belle Ann of Ferdinand; four sisters, LaVerne Grundhoefer and husband Robert of Santa Claus, Mary Ann Hoge and husband Bill of Zionsville, IN., Rosalie Denu and husband John of Jasper; Clara Pfister and husband Michael of Evansville. John was preceded in death by both of his parents.

Leona Mary (Haug) Waninger
, 95 of Evanston passed away Friday November 28th at her home. She was born December 7,1918 in Ferdinand, In. to John & Josephine (Reuss) Haug. She married Raymond J. Waninger on May 6,1944 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on September 25,1993.

Leona was a homemaker, and a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda, In. Her hobbies were quilting, sewing, cooking and gardening, especially flowers. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Ralph F. & Louis M. Waninger. 3 sisters, Anna Louise Brandt , Frances Lehr, & Emma Richardt. 4 brothers, Albert, Martin, Leo, Edmond Haug. Son-in-law, Joseph Otto.

Surviving are 7 daughters, Carolyn Otto of Siberia, Virginia Witte of Jasper, Patty Kluemper and husband Gene of English, Betty Survance and husband Lonnie of Loogootee, Laura Meunier and husband Mike of Evanston, Mary Lou Rothgerber and husband Dave of Evanston and Barbara Waninger of Evanston. 4 sons, Jerome Waninger and his wife Sheri , Tom Waninger, & Mike Waninger all of Evanston & Tim Waninger of Jasper. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Charles Marsh Campbell,
88, of Ferdinand died at 3:10 am Friday, November 21, 2014, at Brookside Village Senior Living Community in Jasper.

Charles was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on March 22, 1926, to Charles Carrol  Campbell and Florence Ruff Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Sodality.  He held a Master of Fine Arts Degree and in 1968 began teaching  English and poetry at St. Benedict College and Marian Heights Academy in Ferdinand.  Mr. Campbell had written poetry since the age of 12 and was the  published author of several poetry books.   Besides writing poetry, Mr. Campbell liked reading the Bible, praying the rosary, and attending Mass daily.

Surviving are four nieces, Nancy Foster, Judy Wallisch, Barbara Campbell & Susan Faling and two nephews, Daniel Campbell and Steven Foster

 He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his sister.

The funeral will be at 1:00 pm EST Tuesday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Francis T. “Boops” Kraus, 88 of Ferdinand passed away Friday November 21, 2014 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. He was born June 21, 1926 in Ferdinand to Frank Martin Kraus & Clara (Metzger) Kraus. He married Rosina “Tiny” Rohlman on May 11, 1948 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, In. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2003.

Francis was a retired wood worker from DMI ater working 50 years. He retired in 1990. Francis was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, Huntingburg V.F.W., and a 69 year member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan. He enjoyed playing cards, Visiting the Ferdinand State Forest with family & friends, and enjoyed his cabin at Yellowbanks.

Surviving are 1 son, Kenneth Kraus and his wife Jan of Evansville.  1 daughter, Margaret Potter and her husband Mark of Ferdinand. 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Norma L. Kerstiens
, 72, of Fulda, passed away, Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Norma was born April 12, 1942 in Fulda to Thomas and Bertha (Mehling) Dilger. She married Dennis H. Kerstiens on June 30, 1962 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda. Norma retired from Masterbrand Cabinets in Ferdinand. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish and its Ladies Sodality. Norma belonged to the Fulda Sportsman Club and the Fulda Card Club. She was an avid quilter and loved playing cards.

Norma is survived by her husband Dennis Kerstiens of Fulda; two daughters, Karen Ketzner and husband Joe of Ferdinand, Debra Moore and husband Stacy of Huntingburg; three sons, Randall J. Kerstiens and wife Sandra of Ferdinand, Rick T. Kerstiens and wife Anita of St. Meinrad and Dave W. Kerstiens of Mariah Hill; eleven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren also survive. Norma was preceded in death by a brother, Wilfred Dilger.

Robert Lee Mohr,
79, of Ferdinand, passed away, Wednesday, November 5th at his home. Robert was born September 4, 1935 in Ferdinand to John Sr. and Augusta (Oser) Mohr. He married Barbara Meyer on September 3, 1962 at Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill. Robert was a member of; St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and its St. Joe’s Sodality; Mariah Hill YMI Council #582; Ferdinand Historical Society; Ferdinand Community Center; Tri County YMCA and was a charter member of the Ferdinand Jaycees. Robert graduated from Ferdinand High School in 1955. He was the second recipient of the Sportsman Award for participation in basketball, track and baseball. Robert served six years in the National Guard and was employed at Schreiner and Verkamp IGA for 42 years. He retired from Jasper Cabinet. Robert was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He followed Indiana University Basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.

Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara of Ferdinand; one son, Donnie Mohr and wife Kim of Ferdinand; one daughter, Gina Hides and husband Jay of Louisville, KY.; three grandchildren, Claire, Blake and Cole; two step-grandchildren, Brittani and David; two step-great-grandchildren; five brothers, Dick and wife Elaine of Mariah Hill, Ron and wife Doris, John Jr. and wife Marge and Paul Mohr and wife Becky all of Ferdinand, Ed Oser and wife Marty of Ferdinand; three sisters, Dolly Harris and husband Jim of Huntingburg, Vita Voegerl and husband Ken, Francis “Bootsie” Brinkman and husband Jerome all of Ferdinand; sister-in-law, Julia Mohr of Ferdinand. Robert was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Mohr.

David Thomas, 56, of Santa Claus, died, Friday, October 31st at 11:30 pm at Saint Charles Health Campus in Jasper. David was born March 30, 1958 in Huntingburg to John and Shirley (Buechler) Thomas. David was a mechanic. He enjoyed playing cards, socializing with friends and was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. David is survived by a brother, Martin Thomas and wife Janet of Ferdinand; one niece and one nephew. David was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers and a sister all in infancy. Richard Lindauer, 79, of St. Meinrad, passed away, October 30, 2014 at Ownensboro Mercy Health Hospital. Richard was born October 20, 1935 in Mariah Hill to Hugo and Lucille (Wiederkehr) Lindauer.

He married Yvonne Taylor on August 30, 1958 in St. John’s Catholic Church in Bristow. Richard was a farmer and also retired from Masterbrand in Ferdinand. Richard was a member of St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366 and St. Meinrad Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, sports and helping his wife Yvonne quilt. Richard also helped Yvonne stuff teddy bears for Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

Richard is survived by his wife, Yvonne of St. Meinrad; two sons, Kelvin and wife Linda of St. Meinrad, Elmer and wife Carrie of Winslow; one daughter, Diane Weber and husband Fred of Dale; five grandchildren, Maria Weber, Christine Himsel, Jessica Mehling, Megan Lindauer, Amber Lindauer; one great-grandchild, Christian Himsel; one brother, Sylvester Lindauer and wife Myrna of St. Meinrad and one sister, Rosie Bender and husband Werner of Jasper. Richard was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Harpenau.

Emil Wagner, 93, of Ferdinand, passed away, Wednesday, October 29th at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Emil was born May 9, 1921 in Ferdinand to William L. and Elizabeth B. (Schadler) Wagner. Emil was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed playing guitar, talking with friends and keeping up with current events.

Emil is survived by twelve nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five sisters; Louise Nord, Lorine Schlachter, Frances Schlachter, Emma Schlachter, Rose Wilmes and one brother, Edmund Wagner.

Irene C. Werne
, 90, of Ferdinand, died, Thursday, October 23, 2014 at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. Irene was born June 6, 1924 in Dubois to John and Elizabeth (Schepers) Terwiske. She married Gilbert P. Werne on May 23, 1944 in St. Mary Church in Ireland. Gilbert passed away on June 24, 2010. Irene was a lifelong Homemaker. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St Anne’s Sodality. Irene enjoyed reading and scrapbooking.

Irene is survived by one son, Larry Werne and wife Linda of Ferdinand; two daughters, Darla Schipp and husband Tom of Ferdinand, Sharon Persohn and husband Kenneth of Schnellville; one brother, Cletus Terwiske of Boston, MA., two sisters, Monica Thacker and husband Bob of Huntingburg and Mary Merkley of Jasper; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; one son, Gary Werne; one grandson, Todd Werne; four brothers, Jim, Bob, Tony and Maurice Terwiske.

Charles W. “Charlie” Kuntz
, 60 of Fulda died Saturday October 18, 2014 in rural Fulda, In. He was born January 15, 1954 in Fulda to Carl A. & Helen M. (Weigand) Kuntz. He married Karen S. Flamion on August 12, 1978 in Saint Isidore Catholic Church in Bristow.

Charlie was a member of Saint Boniface Parish in Fulda. He was a propane delivery driver for SynEnergy, and a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on tractors and machines, and was an avid photographer.

Survivors include his wife, Karen S. Kuntz, 1 son, Adam Kuntz of Fulda, 2 daughters, Andrea Lynn Kuntz and fiance’ Evan Tennery of Dayton, Ohio. And Amy E. Freeman and husband Cory of Haysville, IN. 4 grandchildren, Marissa, Mason, & Micah Freeman and Braxton Tennery.  4 sisters, Sister Romain Kuntz of Lima, Peru, Betty Garland and husband Ron of Jasper, Doris Graman and husband Pat of Huntingburg, & Judy Smith of Greencastle, In.

Marcella M. Gogel
, 88 of Mariah Hill passed away Wednesday October 1, 2014 in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand. She was born December 16, 1925 in Ferdinand to Joseph & Mathilda (Nord) Wilmes. She married Chester J. Gogel August 8, 1946 in St. Ferdinand Church, he preceded her in death on June 12,1958. Marcella retired from the Abbey Press in 1990.

Marcella was a member of Mary Help Of Christians Church and its Christian Mothers Society, Santa Claus American Legion Auxillary, Ferdinand Senior Citizens. She enjoyed Quilting, sewing and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by 3 daughters, Alice Kemper and Cindy & Mary Gogel in infancy. 1 son, Larry Gogel in infancy. 1 grandson, Todd Werne, 1 sister Hilda Oser, 6 brothers, Urban, Oscar, Clarence, Ernest, Hubert, & Dennis Wilmes.

Surviving are 4 sons, John Gogel and his wife Lois, Randy Gogel and his wife Laverne all of Mariah Hill, Rick Gogel and his wife Devona of Lamar, Harold Gogel and his wife Linda of Santa Claus. 2 daughters, Judy Eckerle and husband Kerry and Diane Hoppenjans and husband Alvin all of Ferdinand. 25 grandchildren & 31 great-grandchildren also survive. 1 brother, Joseph Wilmes of Ferdinand & 1 sister, Margaret Fetter of Ferdinand.

Helen L. Harpenau,
89, of Dale, passed away, Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. She was born August 27, 1925 in Perry County to John and Ella (Rogier) Naviaux. Helen married John F. Harpenau on November 5, 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Ranger, IN. He died on April 13, 1993. Helen worked at General Electric in Tell City and as a cook at Professional Care Rehab in Dale. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Dale and its Christian Mothers, American Legion Auxillary and Dale Senior Citizens. Helen loved to garden and care for her flowers.

Helen is survived by one son, Mark J. Harpenau and wife Sarah of Santa Claus; two daughters, Marsha Cooper and husband Raymond of Dale and Phillis Altmeyer and husband Larry of Huntingburg; daughter-in-law, Margie Harpenau of Ferdinand; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive. Helen was preceded in death by her husband John; three sons, Daniel Harpenau and in infancy Dennis and Steven; two brothers, John and Fred Naviaux; one sister, Bertha Elder.

Marcella A. Balbach,
87 of Dale passed away Monday evening in Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. Marcella was born October 5, 1926 in Spencer County to Albert and Therese (Schum) Hohl. She married Louis A. Balbach on October 26, 1946 in Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Louis died April 23, 1991. Marcella was a member of Santa Claus Legion Auxillary; Christian Mothers; Santa Claus Senior Citizens and St. Joseph Parish in Dale. Marcella enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends & family, gardening, traveling and farming with her husband Louis for many years.

Marcella is survived by four sons; David Balbach and wife Diane, Ron Balbach and wife Mary, John Balbach and wife Marian all of Dale, Rick Balbach and wife Kim of Santa Claus; three daughters, Barbara Powers and husband Jerry, Karen Grossand husband Monty all of Evansville, Jenny Morales and husband Reynaldo of Columbus, GA.; nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren also survive. Mary Ann (Becher) Potter,
89, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.
She was born November 1, 1924, in Jasper to Othmar and Susan (Seger) Becher. She married George R. Potter on August 3, 1946, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1970.
A homemaker, she was member and past president of both the American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of St. Ann’s Sodality, St. Ferdinand Parish Council, Ferdinand Community Foundation, St. Ferdinand Parish, Ferdinand Senior
Citizens and served as Ferdinand Librarian, Senior Housing Manager
and Booking Manager for the Ferdinand Community Center. She
enjoyed quilting, cards, camping and reading and was a golfer and
seamstress.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Pund and husband,
Kenneth of Ferdinand, Ginny Begle and husband, Lee of Bretzville
and Margie Vaught and husband, Marty of Jasper; four sons, George
T. “Bud” Potter and wife, Donna, John Potter, and Mark Potter and
wife, Margaret, all of Ferdinand and Bill Potter and wife, Janice of
Huntingburg; three brothers, Thomas of Topeka, KS, Charles of Paris,
IL, and Frank Becher of Ferdinand; one sister, Ruthie Durlauf of
Ferdinand; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her husband and her parents were one
sister, Cyrilla Lueken and one brother, Joe Becher.

Olivia A. Hagedorn
, 94 of Ferdinand passed away Sunday morning in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand. She was born September 14, 1920 in Perry County to Edward & Emma (Hubert) Naviaux. She married Clarence A. Hagedorn on April 18, 1939 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Perry Co. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1990.

Olivia was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Ann’s Sodality; Ferdinand Daughters of Isabella and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Auxillary. Olivia was a cook at The Convent of Immaculate Conception, Ferdinand and a cook at Ferdinand American Legion Home. Olivia was an avid quilter, gardener and a wonderful cook and baker.

Olivia is survived by four sons, John Hagedorn and wife Marilyn of Ferdinand, Michael Hagedorn and wife Karen of Bristow, Bernard Hagedorn and wife Deborah of Vincennes, Fred Hagedorn and wife Belle Ann of Ferdinand; four daughters, Laverne Grundhoefer and husband Robert of Santa Claus, Mary Ann Hoge and husband Bill of Zionsville, Rosalie Denu and husband John of Jasper, Clara Pfister and husband Michael of Evansville; one sister, Alma Cook of Plainfield, IN.; twenty one grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren

, 90 of St. Meinrad passed away Friday September 12th at her home. Eleanor was born February 8,1924 in Ireland, In. to Theodore & Cecelia (Sermersheim) Renner. She married Clarence Denning on May 17,1947 in St. Mary’s Church in Ireland, In.

Eleanor was a member of St. Meinrad Parish and its Ladies Sodality. She was a homemaker. Besides her husband Clarence, she was preceded in death by 1 son, Frank Denning, 1 grandchild, Brian Denning, 1 brother, Clemie Renner, 2 sisters, Agnes Eckert & Magdaline Sendelweck.

Judith A. Birchler, 56, of Mariah Hill, passed away, September 10, 2014 at Woodlands Nursing Center in Newburgh. Judith was born November 2, 1957 in Huntingburg to Severln F. and Estella Agnes (Gogel) Birchler. Judith enjoyed making blankets and bibs for babies and was a member of Spencer County Right to Life. Judith was a Special Olympics participant.

Judith is survived by five sisters; Vita M. Kippenbrock of Ferdinand, Carole Leibering of Lamar, Della Fehribach of Houston, TX., Patricia Birchler and Charlene Mary and husband Thomas Wayne Boutwell both of Evansville; four brothers, Ronald Joseph Birchler and wife Kristina of Moorsesville, IN., Larry Eugene Birchler and wife Mary of Gadsden, AL., Richard Lee Birchler and wife Barbara of Grandview and William Albert Birchler and wife Wini of Evansville; thirty-six nieces and nephews; ninety-three great nieces and nephews; sixteen great-great nieces and nephews also survive. Joseph Mehling, 63, of Ferdinand, passed away, Friday, September 5, 2014 at his home. Joe was born December 15, 1950 to Hugo and Verena (Metzger) Mehling in Ferdinand. He married Judy Ebert on November 18, 1972 in St. Ferdinand Church. Joe was owner and operator of JJ’s Express Lube in Ferdinand, Ferdinand Farm Service and Joe Mehling Trucking. Joe was a 1968 graduate of Forest Park High School. He enjoyed playing cards, raising beef cattle and grilling outdoors. Joe was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and also Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce.

Lucille Heilers, 91, of Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Scenic Hills Care Center. Lucille was born March 25, 1923 in Ferdinand to Andrew and Caroline (Heeke) Boeglin. She married Linus Heilers on October 11, 1947 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church. Linus passed away on June 30, 1971. Lucille was a former switchboard operator at the Monastery of Immaculate Conception. She was a member of Saint Ferdinand Parish and St. Anns Sodality; Monastery of Immaculate Conception prayer line. Lucille enjoyed baking and praying the Rosary.

Lucille is survived by, three sons; Tom and wife Karen of  Louisville, KY., John of Columbia, KY., Fred and wife Dianne of Ferdinand; two daughters, Karen Sue Ferguson and husband Bruce of Greenwood, IN. and Mary Heilers of Mesquite, TX; one sister, Rose Mae Kline and husband James of Ferdinand; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Linus; three brothers, Alphonse, Ralph and Ted Boeglin; five sisters, Frieda Olinger, Elnora Hedinger, Leona Lueken, Mary Etta Merkley and Hattie Boeglin.

John “Pup” Schuetter, 49, of
Huntingburg, died, Saturday, August 30th at Brookside Village in Jasper. John was born June 27, 1965 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper to Jacob “Jack” and Barbara (Ruhe) Schuetter. He married Angela (Schulz) Schuetter on April 17, 1993 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church. John was a driver for Central Concrete. He enjoyed camping, hunting and being with family and friends. He was a fan of the Indiana Hoosiers, Cincinnati Reds and the Miami Dolphins. John was a member of the St. Anthony Conservation Club and Saint Ferdinand Parish. 

John is survived by his wife, Angela; two sons, Jacob and Nathan; two daughters, Claudia and Calli all at home; his mother, Barbara Henning and husband Tracy of Ferdinand; three sisters, Chris Becher and husband Shawn of Ferdinand, Janet Roller and husband Jeff of Carmel, IN and Connie Spinner and husband Dave of Ferdinand; one brother, Bill Schuetter and wife Max of Ferdinand. John was preceded in death by his father, Jack; one brother, George; grandparents, Mary and Edward Ruhe, George and Mary Schuetter.

Allen J. Werne, 85, of Ferdinand died, Monday, August 25th at 12:20am at his home. He was born February 12, 1929 to Ray J. and Dorothy (Dotterweich) Werne in Ferdinand. Allen married Doris Harpenau on March 26, 1951 in St. Marks Church near Tell City. Allen was a self-employed farmer. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. Allen served 18 years as President of Ferdinand Farmers Insurance Company. Allen was one of the original six members of the Dubois County Airport Authority. Allen received numerous awards, 2006 Dubois County Cattleman Outstanding Cattleman Award; 1965 Outstanding Grassland Farmer and 2006 Indiana Beef Cattle Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Allen was a member of, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and its’ St. Josephs Sodality.

Allen is survived by his wife, Doris A. Werne; one son, Dan “Red” Werne of Ferdinand; four daughters, Judy Olinger and husband Gene of Mechanicsburg, PA., Mickie Paulin and husband Greg of Ferdinand, Brenda Lueken and husband Ronnie of Schnellville, Bev Atkins and husband Gordon of St. Anthony; two sisters, Elaine Bettag and husband John of Mariah Hill; Dolores Boeglin of Ferdinand; two brothers, Bill Werne of Surprise, AZ., Donald Werne and wife Rita of Ft. 96 of Ferdinand passed away Tuesday August 19th in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand. He was born July 13, 1918 in Ferdinand to Joseph & Mary (Rahman) Ebert. He married Hilda T. Schaefer on May 22, 1945 in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church.

Othmar retired from DMI Furniture and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366, Life member St. Meinrad Knights Of Columbus #5599 St. Meinrad, Farm Bureau, Ferdinand Senior Citizens, St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Josephs Sodality. Othmar was a director for Perry-Spencer RTC for 15 years. He enjoyed playing cards and farming. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Amelia Laake, 3 brothers, Edwin, Robert and infant Raymond Ebert.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Hilda T. Ebert  1 son, Sylvan Ebert and his wife Linda of Greenwood, 5 daughters, Norma Murray and husband Jim of Kokomo, In., Diane Balbach and husband David of Dale, Marlene Braunecker and husband Gene of Huntingburg, Sandy Meyer and husband Steve of Lexington, Ky., and Terri Carson and husband Jeff of Carmel, In. 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. 1 brother, Anthony Ebert of Ferdinand.

Anastasia Wollenmann,
84, of  Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, August 17, 2014, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. Anastasia was born June 12, 1930 in Troy, IN to Lawrence and Nellie (Gelarden) Braunecker. She married John Wollenmann on June 25, 1954 in St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy. He passed on April 29, 1997.

                Anastasia is survived by a son, John Wollenmann Jr. and wife Patty of Jasper; one daughter, Dianne Gogel and her partner Jerry Klee of Perry County, IN; one brother, Ambrose Braunecker of Danville, KY; two sisters, Rosie Mills and Patty Welp both of Evansville; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. Anastasia was preceded in death by her husband John, and sister’s Jeannie Becher and Mary Braunecker.

                Anastasia retired from Ferdinand Elementary where she served as a cook for 24 years. She loved going to yard sales and playing bingo at local picnics. Anastasia especially loved anything to do with Christmas. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Church and its St. Anne’s Sodality.

David was born October 19, 1944 in Ferdinand to Lawrence and Amelia (Dilger) Hassfurther. David is survived by his son Keith Hassfurther of Ferdinand; four brothers, Linus, Tom, Pat and Sylvester”Nessy” all of Ferdinand; one sister, Martha Hulsman of Siberia and two grandchildren. David was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar, Joe, Albert and Norman and two sisters, Ruth Gish and Dorothy Oeding.
David was owner-operator of Hassfurther Masonry and a member of Dubois County Homebuilders Association. He enjoyed being out on the farm with
animals, especially his dog Opie. David also operated Dave’s Mule Train. He was an avid Forest Park Ranger fan.

Joseph G. Persohn, 83 of St. Meinrad passed away Friday August 1st at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City. He was born December 31, 1930 in Saint Anthony, In. to Hubert & Pauline (Altmeyer) Persohn. He married Mary Jane “Jeanie”Vaal on September 27, 1951 in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church, St. Meinrad. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2011.

Joseph retired as plant superintendent at Aristocraft / Masterbrand Cabinets. He was a member of St. Meinrad Parish. He loved to hunt and fish, playing softball & cards, cooking & baking. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Survivors include, 1 daughter, Debbie Kelley and husband Jim of Leopold, In.  2 sons, Roger Persohn of Haubstadt, In. & Dean Persohn and fiancé Brenda of Wadesville.

8 grandchildren, Jeremy Edwards, Jamie Edwards, Jill Tompkins, Jennifer Kellems, Jordan Kelly, Jeff Kelly, Adam Persohn & Emily Persohn.

11 great grandchildren, Wyatt , Ethan, Andre, & Alexa Edwards, Reese & Ava Tompkins, Hunter & Hope Kellems, Clohe, Calissa, & Cayleigh Kelly.

1 brother, Lawrence Persohn and wife Ramilda of Jasper 4 sisters, Cora Fischer and husband Jim of St. Meinrad, Bonnie Fleck of Jasper, Ardella Schneider and husband Pete of Ferdinand, & Leona Schaefer of Dale.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ruth Knies and Madesta Persohn and 3 brothers, Ray , Ralph, and Walter Persohn

 Herbert A. Balbach, 89, of Ferdinand died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Brookside Village in Jasper. Herbert was born October 16, 1924 in Mariah Hill to Anton and Bertha (Jochim) Balbach. He married Theresa A. Kerstiens on May 22, 1951 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2007. Herbert is survived by three sons, Robert and wife Patty of Evansville, Ken and wife Julia of Evansville and Larry of Ferdinand; three daughters, Rita Messmer and husband Edward of Jasper, Judy Louthan and husband Mark of of Newburg and Patty Copeland and husband Bob of Louisville, KY and one brother, Leo Balbach of Mariah Hill. Eleven grandchildren Emily & Scott Balbach, Greg, Brad, & Logan Messmer, Aaron & Tyler Copeland Jennifer & Megan Balbach, Jessica & Brooke Louthan. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife Theresa; a son, Dennis; a granddaughter, Kayla Copeland and one brother William Balbach.

                Herbert was a WWII Veteran where he served as a Medic with the C Squadron 1385th. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and St. Ferdinand Parish. Herbert was an avid gardener who also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Herbert was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Robert L. Schaeffer, 82, of Santa Claus, passed away, Friday, July 18, 2014 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born August 15, 1931 to Paul and Nora ( Schulte ) Schaeffer in Fulda, IN. Robert married JoAnn Daming on November 22, 1956 at St. Marks Catholic Church in Tell City. Robert was a partner in Schaeffer Trucking and High Point Inc. He was also a self-employed farmer who especially enjoyed working on his back-hoe. 

Robert was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict where he earned the Purple Heart Award.  Robert is survived by his wife, JoAnn; two sons, Brian and his wife Stacy of Santa Claus, Gale and his girlfriend Crystal of Santa Claus; two sisters, Lidwina Miller of Fulda and Dorothy Foertsh of Evanston; two grandchildren, Morgan and Jason Schaeffer both of Santa Claus. Robert was preceded in death by a brother, Norbert Schaeffer and one sister, Alberta Keller.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 20th at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. CST and Monday from 7:30 until 9:30 a.m. CST at the Funeral Home. Theodore Othmar Seifrig,
62, of Saint Meinrad, passed away, July 8, 2014 at his home in Saint Meinrad. Theodore was born November 11, 1951 in Saint Meinrad to William and Opal (Kline) Seifrig.

Theodore was a Vietnam Veteran as a part of the Military Police. He enjoyed listening to music and also taking drives. Theodore is survived by his daughter, Dawn Berg and husband Nathan of Saint Meinrad; four sisters, Dorothy Hessig of Saint Meinrad, Alice Stillwell and husband Tom of Birdseye, Helen Stillwell and husband Harold of Birdseye, Milly Harpenau and husband Larry of Tell City; three brothers, Paul and wife Linda of Saint Meinrad, Donald and wife Kathy of Dale; Roger and wife Mary Ellen of Saint Meinrad; three grandchildren, Jazmine, Tiffany and Brody Berg all of Saint Meinrad.
Theodore was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy, Louis and Ralph Seifrig and a sister Pat Aldridge. Edwin Charles Schilling
, 66 of Ferdinand passed away Thursday July 10th in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand. He was born September 20, 1947 in Ferdinand to Albert E. & Elenora E. (Hildenbrand) Schilling.

Edwin was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and Ferdinand V.F.W. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War serving in the Engineer Corps. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Elenora Schilling, brother, Albert David Schilling, 3 sisters, Carol Jean Schilling, Susan E. Schilling, & Margaret “Margie” Merkel.

Surviving are 3 brothers, James “Tex” Schilling, Tom Schilling and wife Sue both of St. Henry, Mark Schilling and wife Mary of Fulda. Joan Beckman and husband Ray of St. Meinrad, Janet Titzer and husband Craig of Elberfeld, Mary Ann Schilling & Karen Schilling both of Ferdinand. Nieces & nephews, and great nieces & nephews also survive.

  Michael Anthony Boeglin, 30, of Ferdinand, died June 26, 2014 in Detroit, MI. Michael was born September 24, 1983 in Huntingburg to Darlene A. Boeglin. Micheal married Ashley Marie Clark on October 27, 2012 in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church.  After graduating from Forest Park High School in 2002, Michael went on to work as a United States Border Patrol Agent. He later became employed as a truck driver for Mawson & Mawson.  He enjoyed farming and driving Jeeps.

Michael is survived by his wife, Ashley Marie Boeglin of Ferdinand ; his mother, Darlene Boeglin of Ferdinand; two sisters, Melanie Boeglin and his twin sister Michelle Boeglin; one brother, Mark A. Boeglin all of Ferdinand; a niece, Peyton Boeglin and a nephew Dakota Boeglin both of Ferdinand. Michael was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Ralph A. Boeglin.

Walter Eugene Kasprzycki, 91 of Fairfield, OH. Passed away Thursday June 19, 2014 at Westover Facility in Hamilton, OH. He was born October 16, 1922 in Bayonne, N.J. to Frank & Frances (Michalski) Kasprzycki. He married the former Edna Weyer.

Walter retired from Ford Motor Company in 1989, where he worked as a tool maker at the Sharonville, OH. Plant. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church in Fairfield, OH. He was a WWII Marine veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre. Walter was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Henrietta Welcher and Clara Posluszny.

Surviving are his wife, Edna (Weyer) Kasprzycki . 2 daughters, Nancy Kasprzycki of Adelaide, Australia, & Joan Kasprzycki-Strauss and husband Edmund Strauss of Houston, TX.

Richard Donald Graman, age 62 of Fairfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.  He was born to Alvera Graman (nee Becher) and Jerome Graman.  On November 22, 1973 in Lincoln City, IN, he married his wife Bonnie Graman (nee Hevron).  Richard, a graduate of Dale High School and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology retired from GE in April of 2013.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie; his son Nicholas (Sarah) Graman;  his mother Alvera Graman; his grandson Nathan Graman; his brothers Roger (Saundra) Graman and Jeffrey (Karen) Graman; his sisters Barbara Eudy and Rebecca (John) Melton; also survived by numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and his daughter Sarah Elizabeth Graman.

James Alan Demuth
, 59, of Ferdinand, passed away, Sunday, May 18, 2014 at his home. James was born December 20, 1954 at Huntingburg to Othmar and Emmogyne (Wendholt) Demuth. James worked for OFS. He was a member of St. Meinrad Knights of Columbus #5599; Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Sons of American Legion and St. Ferdinand Parish. James enjoyed antique Oliver tractors and Beatles music. James is survived by four brothers, Bob and wife Shirley, Rick and wife Paula, and John all of Ferdinand, and Charlie and wife Martha of St. Meinrad; two sisters, Pat Nordhoff and husband Norbert of Ferdinand and Angie Gogel and husband Hilbert of Mariah Hill.

Leola “Lee” Marie Oploh, 84 of Louisville, KY, passed away at her home Thursday, May 15th. She was born in Elmhurst, IL on September 11, 1929, to Harold & Marina (Weaver) Jacobs. She married Heinz Oploh on July 27, 1957 and he preceded her in death on September 15, 1995.

She attended public and parochial schools in Chicago and graduated from DePaul University with a bachelor’s degree in Music.  She majored in education during graduate study at DePaul and the University Of Chicago.  She worked as a copy girl for the Chicago Tribune, and as an accompanist to voice teachers at DePaul University.  She taught elementary education and music in Chicago Public Schools for 38 years.  Leola enjoyed nature & traveling , especially the United States and Canada.

Survivors include 1 son, William Oploh and his wife Kimberly of Makanda, IL; 1 daughter, Irene Kostiwa and husband Wade of Milwaukee, WI; and 4 grandchildren, Heidi and Elli Oploh & Margaret and Anneliese Kostiwa.

Stephen Kermit Chase63 of Mariah Hill, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 14that 10:05pm.    He was born May 17, 1950 in Wayne City, IL, to Kermit & Vivian Chase.  Stephen was a receiving clerk at Thermwood Corporation in Dale.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking & gardening.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit & Vivian Chase.

Hugo J. Wagner, 90 
of Ferdinand, IN. passed away Tuesday May 13th at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. Hugo was born August 27,  1923 in Mariah Hill, IN. to Leo F. & Minnie (Mehling) Wagner. He married Delores N. Niehaus on June 3, 1947 in St. Martin Of Tours Catholic Church, Siberia, IN. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2010.

Hugo was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, and Huntingburg V.F.W. Post 2366. Hugo was a WWII ARMY Veteran and served in Burma, Eastern Theatre. He was a member of Merrill’s Marauders. He retired from Jasper Cabinet after 48 years. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Marie and Martha Wagner, Julie Chester, Lena Laws, Loretta Ringenberg. 2 brothers, Henry & Andrew Wagner.

Surviving are 2 sons, Dennis E. Wagner of Louisville, KY. & Leroy A. Wagner and wife Judy of Ferdinand. 3 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren 2 sisters, Ida Maffenbeier of Jasper & Mrs. William “Bill” Smalley of Jeffersontown, KY.

Anna Mae Kunkler, 88 of St. Meinrad, passed away at 6:55 PM Tuesday May 6th in Northwood Retirement Community, Jasper.  Anna Mae was born November 9, 1925 in St. Meinrad, Indiana to Albert & Magdalena (Neu) Becher.  She married John H. Kunkler Sr. on June 24, 1947, in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1990.

Anna Mae was a Housekeeper at St. Meinrad Archabbey Guesthouse.  She was a member of St. Meinrad Parish and its Ladies Sodality.  She enjoyed quilting, dominos, playing cards & traveling.  She was preceded in death by 1 son, Patrick Kunkler, 1 grandson, Kurt Philipps, 2 sisters, Amanda Kunkler & Irma Fischer, and 3 brothers, Ambrose, Harold, & Roman Becher.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Phyllis Kunkler of Jasper & Vivian Philipps and husband Randy of Dale; 2 sons, John H. “Koonie” Kunkler Jr. and wife Debbie of Mariah Hill, and Mike Kunkler and wife Lana of St. Meinrad.  7 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren 1 sister, Mildred Bolte of Ferdinand also survive.

Catherine Lucy White Brown, 94, of Ferdinand, formerly of St. Meinrad, passed away April 20, 2014 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Catherine was born December 2, 1919 in Plymouth IN to Omer and Marie (Molter) White. She married Frank Fleming on September 12, 1942. Frank preceded her in death on October 26, 1959. In January of 1961, Catherine met Bob Brown, a widower with a family of four. Bob swept her off her feet and they were engaged by May 24th.  Catherine and Bob were married one month later on June 24th, 1961.

In 1937 Catherine graduated from Central High School and one year later entered St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in order to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. Catherine was capped in 1938 and reached her goal by graduating in 1941. As a nurse, Catherine has held many positions: Staff Nurse at Medical/Surgery Units at four different hospitals; Private Duty Nursing; Physician’s office; Instructor of First Aid and Home Nursing Classes and an Industrial Nurse at the RCA plant in Bloomington, IN.

Catherine has served in many volunteer activities all her life, such as: National Council of Catholic Women’s Retreat Programs, Child Abuse and Neglect Council, Indiana Catholic Conference, Spencer County Council on Aging, Driver for handicapped and the elderly, Red Cross Blood Drive Volunteer and a longtime member of Catholic Union of the Sick Of America for 26 years.

Catherine had many hobbies such as, Reading, Praying, Classical Music, Traveling and Studying health related subjects. Catherine attended 14 St. Joseph/Holy Cross Alumnae weekend Reunions and enjoyed every second of the get-togethers. Catherine was most thankful for her nurse’s training, and for making her goal in life possible. She lived by the following quotes, “Once a nurse, always a nurse,”  “Friendships are joys that never end,” “Life has been given to us and by completing what God gives us to do we find contentment and happiness.”

Catherine is survived by three sons, John Joseph VI Brown and wife Debbie of Friendswood, TX, Br. Benjamin Brown OSB of St. Meinrad Archabbey and James Patrick Brown and wife Maggie of Seattle, WA; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson also survive. Catherine was preceded in death by a daughter, MJ Heptig; two brothers, Paul White and John White; two sisters, Virginia Tschechtelin and  Dorothy Butler; and one grandson Nathan Trueblood.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 3, 2014 in St. Meinrad Catholic Church at 10:00 AM CDT with burial to follow in the Church cemetery. Rodney Lee (Bud) Bromm, 49, of Santa Claus, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. Rodney was born January 22, 1965, in Huntingburg to Dennis and Mary (Kempf) Bromm. He married Adrienne Beckham on June 29, 2002, at the Huntingburg Conservation Club. Rodney worked for Prairie Farms. He enjoyed hunting, four-wheeler riding and card games with family. Rodney was also known to be a very hard worker.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Adrienne Bromm; his mother, Mary Culver of Huntingburg; three daughters, Jessica Dauby and husband Justin of Ferdinand, Ashton Kratzar and husband Charles of Ireland, and Nicole Bromm of Ferdinand; two stepdaughters, Taza Garris of Huntingburg and Natallie Garris of Huntingburg; three brothers, Scott Bromm of New Boston, Rick Bromm of Huntingburg and Joe Bromm of Clarksville; two sisters, Kim Deno and Stacy Huff both of Jasper; six grandchildren, Brayden Kratzer, Maddison Kratzer, Trenton Dauby, Mareah Kiefer, Christopher Garris and Baby L. Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Dennis; a nephew, Eugene Letterman and grandparents.

Greg Fischer, 42, of Bedford, passed away, Friday, April 25, 2014 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford. Greg was born December 31, 1971 in Huntingburg to Irvin and Mary (Tieman) Fischer. Greg enjoyed playing ball and watching sports.

Greg is survived by his mother, Mary Fischer of Ferdinand; seven brothers, Leroy Fischer of Mishawaka, Mike Fischer and wife Donna, Paul, David, Dennis, Steve and Marvin Fischer all Ferdinand; five sisters, Ruth Fischer, Deanne Fischer, Brenda Fischer,  Marilyn Weyer all of Ferdinand, and Marlene Johnson of Omaha, NB; three nieces and four nephews also survive. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Irvin; two brothers, Mark and Ralph; one sister, Jane Marie in infancy.

Elizabeth Cecelia Zoglman, 87 of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, April 22, at Millers Merry Manor in Rockport. She was born December 12, 1926 at Huffman Mills in Spencer County, IN, to John J. & Rosa Mary (James) Zoglman. She was a housekeeper at Regina, St. Mary’s.  She was preceded in death by 1 brother, John F. Zoglman.

Survivors include 2 sisters, Clara Dunn of Rockport and Anna Gibbons of Evansville.  Also surviving are several nieces & nephews.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda, IN.  Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Lucille Brahm, 94, of Ferdinand, passed away, Thursday April 17th at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.  Lucille was born July 14, 1919 to Clements and Magdalene (Jent) Schwindel in St. Meinrad. She married Leroy Brahm on December 28, 1943. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2009.

Lucille is survived by a son, Loren and wife Marilyn of Ferdinand; a daughter, Linda Williams of Lexington, KY;  six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Hilda M. Rahman, 90, of Ferdinand, passed away,  Sunday,  April 6th at her home.  Hilda was born February 25, 1924, in Ferdinand to Theodore and Anna (Kerstiens) Metzger. She married Linus F. Rahman on August 26, 1947, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.  Linus preceded her in death on November 4, 2013.

Hilda is survived by four sons, Alan and wife Georgia, Eddie and wife Gloria, Steve and wife Angie all of Ferdinand, Frank and wife Mary of Santa Claus; Seven daughters, Marcella “Sally” Harpenau and husband Paul of Branchville, Margie Hoffman and husband Dave,  Mary Jo Giesler and husband Bill, and Doris Klem and husband Bernard “Butch” all of Ferdinand, Carol Lueken and husband Kenny of Hatfield, MO,  Martha Demuth and husband Charlie of St. Meinrad and Connie Mundy and husband Steve of Jasper.   27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren also survive.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband Linus and two sisters, Verena Mehling and Mary Rahman.

Hilda was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and its St. Ann’s Sodality, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Ladies Auxiliary & Ferdinand Daughters Of Isabella.  Hilda volunteered at Saint Meinrad Archabbey and quilted for St. Ferdinand Parish. Hilda enjoyed quilting, baking and her family. Her eyes always lit up when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8:00 PM and Thursday from 7-9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com .


Renola M. (Nord) Cecil, 86, of Mariah Hill, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born March 2, 1928, in St. Meinrad to Frank and Regina (Neu) Brockman.  Renola married Francis “Bencie” Nord on October 8, 1949 in St. Meinrad.  He preceded her in death on December 22, 1972. She married her second husband, Bill Cecil on October 25, 1974, in Metropolis, IL.  He preceded her in death on December 18, 2008.

                Renola is survived by three sons, Tom Nord and wife Cindy of Newburgh, Tim Nord and wife Tami of Mariah Hill and Terry Nord also of Mariah Hill; one stepson and 3 step-daughters; one sister, Edna “Patty” Eger of Tell City; one brother, James Brockman and wife Mary Lee of Evansville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.  Renola was preceded in death by; husbands, Francis Nord and Bill Cecil; one brother, Merwyn Brockman and a sister, Mary Jane.

                Renola was a former co-owner of The Chateau Restaurant in Mariah Hill. She enjoyed puzzles, playing dominos, playing cards and bingo. She was an avid fan of the Mariah Hill Yankees baseball team. Renola was a member of the Santa Claus American Legion Auxiliary Post 242; Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and its’ Ladies Sodality. She also served on the Bereavement Luncheon Group at Mary Help of Christians Church.

                Funeral services will be at 10:00am CDT Monday in Mary Help of Christians Church, Mariah Hill. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8:00pm CDT at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and Monday from 9:00 am CDT until time of service at the Church.  Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Mary help of Christians Church.  Condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.






Cyrilla M. (Dotterwich) Schwindel, 89, of St. Meinrad, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Jasper.  Cyrilla was born November 27, 1924, in Ferdinand to Jacob and Mary (Weyer) Dotterwich.  She married Edwin H. Schwindel on October 29, 1946, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church.  Edwin preceded her in death on March 29, 1996. Cyrilla is survived by three daughters, Mary Lou Vaal and husband Gene of St. Meinrad, Mitzy Lewis and husband George of Bloomington, Brenda Braslow and husband Barry of Denver, CO; one half-sister, Henrietta Bishoff of Louisville, KY; 14 Grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  Cyrilla was preceded in death by her husband Edwin; a daughter, Kathy Spurlock; one granddaughter, Lynn Jeanette; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Leo Dotterwich; one sister, Dorothy Ebert; two half-brothers, Louis and Frank Fleck; and three half-sisters, Verona Spraggs, Josephine Boehman and Philomina Malone.

            Cyrilla was a life-long farmer and homemaker. She was a member of St. Meinrad Catholic Church Parish and its Ladies Sodality. She was also a member of American Legion Post 366 Auxiliary. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM CDT Saturday in St. Meinrad Catholic Church.  Visitation will be from 2-8:00 PM CDT Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and from 9:00 AM CDT to time of service on Saturday at the church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetary.  Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.  Condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com
